first of all thanks for the watch and the faves and comments!
There are several Russian fairy tales about the firebird (who seems to be an incarnation of the phoenix) - a magical bird that likes to steal magic apples from a magic garden and is eventually caught - or offers help to - Prince Ivan. Argh. I don't really know that much about it, but you can google it! That's what I did when I did the picture.

yeah I was quite pleased with how the apples and foliage came out. I used *lots* and *lots* of masking fluid for this one!
