just make a shading layer, or make a clipping group over the flat layer and then lasso tool the main shadowed area.Then I use a large eraser in SAI and make little lines ,but the thicker you do the erasing the fluffier it make the fur looks

I'll keep that in mind, thanks. I'll give it a go soon, I keep trying different things but I'm always really critical of myself thinking 'Aw you can't do this, woman!'

Refencing is the best thing, The only problem there is that you can't always find helpful refs x_X
I really want to do painting, but I'm too afraid that I'll ruin a perfectly good pic ;A;

Useful refs are indeed hard to come by, sometimes I just try to wing it and end up scrapping things Dx
And I'm sure you'll do a good job with a lil practice! I find paints really hard to control, where's my irl ctrl+z when I need it? ._.

It's really easy to do , Just shade as normal and then erase random bits of it afterwards to make fur

The more you work on something, the quicker and easier it will be to draw it the next time
As for digi art, it takes time , there are many tutorials that can teach you the basics of photoshop and SAI , then once you know the basics you can move onto more elaborate things ^^
For so long I was afraid to use photoshop and layers and stuff , now I need it xD
Maybe I should stream my art sometime and show people what I mean...

drawing lots of different animals has its disadvantages though, i never really get the chance to get really good at one thing.
but i guess thats what practice is for, right?
