Description Made by me, for the Witcher cosplay competition - I spent about three months on this costume, and got a lot of practice sewing with leather! I've seen other Ciri cosplayers complaining about the corset, and yeah...it is the worst. Too long to sit down in, and really not comfortable.

I made the entire costume, except the gloves - I bought a pair and modified them. The sword is worbla, PVC foam, wooden doweling and LOTS of filler. I'd like to make this again at some point; I learned a lot making it and I think I could do a better job now.

The scabbard is something I'm really proud of - I dyed the leather and topstitched in the detailing, and it's wrapped over a foam and worbla base. It looks really great, and I'm very pleased with how it came out

What a beautiful cosplay!!!
Is there any problem if I use this pic as a reference for drawing? I really love the pose and the details!

Hoooly, cow, that's a really sharp looking outfit! And a really nice back shot. I think everyone (including myself) should get more rear views just to show that extra detail.

This isn't something I watch (though it looks like maybe I should?) but from a quick glance online, if you ever decide to remake it, it looks like you could get away with only boning the corset through the waist, and leaving the hips unboned. It would probably make it more comfortable for you to wear, and if you're using the correct materials for the corset, it should still be stiff enough that it wouldn't be noticeable. Just my two cents

Yeah, I think I definitely need to re-think it a bit! I used napa deerskin (it's what I had on-hand) and it's flatlined in a cotton blend, with all boning in a separate lining layer. I'm not sure how I'd go with a stiffer leather; because the seams still need to be regular topstitched ones I don't know if I could go much stiffer without making things REALLY DIFFICULT. I wish I'd hidden lacing somewhere tbh, it closes with a zipper at the front and I think it would be much more supportive if I'd been able to get it nice and tight.

Haha, all good - thanks so much for taking the time to give advice, I really appreciate it! When I have time I'll definitely have to look at engineering it a little better

haha, no problem. I hear you about time. Good luck! I'd love to see what you come up with

Try a twill for the flatlining layer. I think the softer leather would be okay, but the twill would give you that stiffness you're looking for (and it's cheaper than coutil). You can always add some interfacing in between the leather and twill as well. Your sewing machine will probably hate you, but oh well lol.

Hard to see from the pictures I found, but it looks like it might be laces anyways? If not, then if you drew up the pattern correctly, you could probably do a double layer front, with laces on the bottom layer and a zipper on the top layer.
