There is no base it's just my own style. I have never made a base before but maybe i'll try.

I made it really complicated, but overall I used a base underneath, like the head and body. Then for the hair I used the pen tool to make the shape. For the colors I use a big brush then use a smaller brush to edit it. I hope this helps
