I'm sorry for not posting for a few days. I have been feeling a little down, probably from being cooped up due to the current world events (quarantine, social isolation, etc). The being at home all the time, lack of social activity and the inability to enjoy the last bit of the good weather here before it gets insanely hot has been very depressing. I'm sure many feel the same (except for the part about hot weather, that's just for the people on the equator).⁠

I have been working on several different concepts and doing a a lot of experimental work. Some of the concepts I will be using but unfortunately none of the experimental monotypes worked out well enough to publish. However, I did learn a couple of things, which I have implemented in my new piece here!⁠

I painted a caged woman because that is how I feel. Originally I wanted her to look sad but I guess since I feel a little better than a few days ago, she came out looking strong, defiant and with an almost super hero like pose. ⁠

Here is 'Prisoner' Followed by the ghost print 'Ghost Prisoner'. ⁠
I tried a layering technique by starting out with a thinner layer of ink/paint and then going over it with some darker colors. I really LOVE the body shading. I was planning on painting a dress on her but that shading worked out so well that I just couldn't do it. Definitely my favorite part of this monotype. ⁠

WHAT IS A MONOTYPE?

For those who do not know what a monotype is: it is a hand made painting on a smooth plate (like glass, metal, plastic etc) which is transferred to either a paper or canvas. The paper (I use paper) is placed on top of the painting and pressed to transfer an impression. In a monotype there are no repeating elements such as: a matrix, stamp, etching or stencil etc. Therefore although called a 'print' it is neither a digital print nor a traditional editioned print. There are no editions. Just one painting. Possible a couple fainter impression, should there be any ink left over after the first transfer (sometimes there is none left). These are called ghost prints and although they have the same design they are completely different. Just like a painting, you get a unique, one of a kind art. To make the same design again, it will have to painted again from scratch on a clean plate.
(The editioned hand prints include linoleum cuts, etchings, screen prints, litho prints etc.)
