Hired thugs attack Hong Kong democracy protesters

Last updated at 12:01AM, October 4 2014
Student leaders abruptly called off talks with the Hong Kong government last night after a day of escalating scuffles between pro-democracy protesters and tattooed thugs thought to have been paid to inject violence into otherwise peaceful demonstrations.

The outbreaks of fighting added fresh tension to protests involving tens of thousands of students and activists from the Occupy movement who have dominated the streets for nearly a week in hot and humid temperatures.

The intensifying tussles, at least one of which ended in bloodshed, were concentrated in the densely populated Mong Kok district of the city.

The UN Declaration of Rights has mentioned freedom of expression. This is a euphemism.

Also support freedom of criticism! I'm done.

I support human rights too dude. I am not anti democracy.
The UN is a bunch of monkeys who wouldn't know what they are doing even if they had guidance.
Name one true success by the UN. I'd like to see you try.

With that said we can't ignore history, Hong Kong was taken from China, partially returned, and it is over due to return.

Democracy is coming to China soon anyway.

I sincerely hope so, but right now it is just one-party-rule, and they are doing as much as they can to ensure that they would remain in power. Thank goodness they bought the CANDU reactor instead of the uber-polluting garbage from the nuke-obsessed guys south of the border.

The Suez crisis is at least one success of the UN, although it is being attributed to Canadian efforts somewhat.

I agreed until you mentioned the UN

In suez the UN troops were positioned around Israel's borders as if they were a shield facing the Sinai peninsula

Even though Israel was the one who attacked first for no reason.

Meh, misinformation everywhere. Whatever.

InfinityUnlimited In reply to preadatordetector [2015-01-15 01:17:35 +0000 UTC]

It isn't mis information man, I come from a mostly jewish family myself

the reason Israel jumped Egypt was because Britain and Egypt were thirsty to have the suez back under their grasps.
Remember just because someone has a different view than you, doesnt make them wrong.
You'll be amazed how much you learn by talking to someone with an opposite opinion.

If I hated your views on the UN would I keep replying? think about it

You don't have to be the same race as the common race of the area you are protesting in. And Britain owned Hong Kong for the longest time, so maybe this girl went over to see a part of her land's history and decided to go protesting.  Not to be rude, but that comment was ignorant. It doesn't matter if you are white, black, asian, whatever, as long as you are standing up for what is right. So what if a white girl is protesting in Hong Kong! It doesn't matter what race she is! That comment you made sounded pretty racist to me. No one gives a flying fuck what race you are when you are peacefully protesting, no matter if you are the policeman trying to get them to leave or another goddamn protester. Sorry for ranting, but think before you add your comment.

InfinityUnlimited In reply to Missem111003 [2015-01-04 00:35:53 +0000 UTC]

actually, race does matter
it is on a scale of white washing , we have seen this done from Egypt and Rome to modern day, the trend still continues

Hong Kong belonged to the british thanks to the opium wars
more than 100 years later the brits had to give it back, it was put by a treaty

Hong Kong has kept its capitalist identity, but the chinese government and its maoist views under brilliant preisdent Xi Jinping,
has make it clear hong kong was to join the main chinese policy.

The Chinese are fed up with western influence, it has been a plague to them and hong kong is the heart of it in china and indo china
The Chinese military often brings in men from west china, the area mostly made of farm boys, so they have no relation with the chinese who live in urban areas, thus having no hesitation to fire or use brutal force.
Unfortunately the people in hong kong grew up with their freedoms, and the Chinese government tends to view individualism as a dangerous thing.
Of course eliminating individualism is brilliant if you want to control a population, we see republicans in the US and Dominican Republic killing free thinking all the time.

capitalism DOES NOT MEAN FREEDOM.
get that falicy out of your head. Cuba was a capitalist dictatorship until 1959 under Batista, and then became a communist dictator ship under Castro.

Ignorant or not my friend, it is a game of chess between the east and the west
and while the west crumbles the east has a upper hand in their deck of cards.

Interesting, unfortunately neither position in my opinion can necessarily "be corrected" because you are analysing the situation from a government standpoint, and the other from the position of the individual. So yes a white can protest in China and yes race does matter when it shouldn't, so I think you are both in your own way correct. Thank you for this interesting read and actual factual opinions ,

there is a reason why Xi JInping wants hong Kong back, and in the end there isnt much to do/should be done.

The chinese tried to take taiwan remember? And US President Eisenhower sent the navy to tell them to back off.

However, my friend Hong Kong is different.
There will be no foreign effort in Hong Kong, you are on my own
you guys are looking at another tianamen square, because China is becoming a world super power, not the nation fighting imperialism and recovering from civil war like it was in the 50s
Jinping will re unite china, hong kong and taiwan
and in the end friend, there is hope
the newer generation of Chinese politicians are as liberal as they get

The reason I say it won't is because of the economic power of Hong Kong

Jinping is pretty serious about this
