VEGGIE!! if you don't like him all that much, check out the dbz abridged by team four star. they will totally change your look on him (in some way...?) it happened to me.

Whenever I draw someone else's stuff, I try to do it in their art style only, so as to respect what they've done.
Otherwise, it probably wouldn't have been too hard. Akira has a pretty complex style.

Aw, thank you! Yeah, I didn't care for the style much at first either, but then as I watched more of the show, it kinda grew on me. Then I sat on my couch and did nothing but draw DBZ for like, a year straight!
