Description
After two solid months of hard work, I am truly proud to present the first boat model to be created by hand. Not just an ordinary boat, but the Star Fleet's switcher tugboat himself, Ten Cents from Tugs! Seeing how other modelers and fans of this old-school show have done/been doing this inspired me strong enough to do the same in both honoring and preserving this legacy, with last two photos on the bottom for size comparison. Design-wise, inspirations hail from the original vintage ERTL die cast and Japan's Takara Tomy toys, especially by their simplicity.Hardest parts of when working on this model include:
- Sanding for the curved shapes for main hull, emergency escape boat and sailor cap
- Face plate construction (especially first time working on a face that is curved instead of being solid flat square)
- Miniature scale eagle statue on Ten Cents' cap
Prior to completion, I have immediately come to a decision of declaring this work as a tribute/homage to three iconic legends: Robert Cardona, David Mitton and of course, the voice of Ten Cents himself, Simon Nash.
Materials: 0.5cm-thick balsa boards, chopsticks, thin wooden skewers, 2cm-wide wooden pole, metal pins, 1cm-wide plastic crafting pipe, duct tape, acrylic felt, acrylic paint, paint markers, thin yet hard cardboard, clay, styrofoam cardboard, EVA foam, printed decals, "propeller" pins, hot glue and gloss varnish
P.S.: No other Tugs characters will be worked on after Ten Cents and Big Mickey. Even if I could, if I were to someday create another Tugs character, possibly it'll be Zip.
