Description He was a lord of the Green-elves hastening from Ossiriand, and the door-wards brought him to where Dior sat alone in his chamber; and there in silence he gave to the King a coffer, and took his leave. But in that coffer lay the Necklace of the Dwarves, wherein was set the Silmaril; and Dior looking upon it knew it for a sign that Beren Erchamion and Luthien Tinuviel had died indeed, and gone where go the race of Men to a fate beyond the world.

I just finished rereading this part of the Silmarillion... You depict the scene so well!

And by the way...If you just re-read Silm...could you write here briefly a couple of scenes rarely being drawn by other artists?

Sorry it took me so long to reply... I wanted to finish rereading the book first.ย  Hmmm... Scenes not often drawn... Well, there is the one in which Mablung of Doriath finds Nรญniel alone and witless after she is bespelled by Glaurung the Dragon, and takes her by the hand to lead her to safety.ย  Another scene which also comes from the Narn i Chรฎn Hรบrin portion of the Silmarillion that I've never seen drawn is the original confrontation between Turin and Saeros (when Saeros taunts Turin.)ย  I also don't believe I have ever seen a depiction of the Council of the Valar, or of Curufin's kidnapping of Luthien.ย  (I have seen Beren's rescue of her, but never the kidnapping.)ย  I hope that helps!ย  Please let me know if you would like for me to try to find passages concerning those scenes for you.ย  Have a great day!

Thank you for advices!)Council of the Valar...it could be interesting, but it was hard to find a suitable image even for maiar Osse - i mean, not like the look of the elves or anyone else.

No problem... Yeah, I agree that would be hard to depict the Council... There are brief descriptions of all the Vala in the second chapter of the Silmarillion, and descriptions of a few Maiar later in the book, but I don't recall some of them being terribly informative.ย  LOL.ย  I mean, it seems pretty clear (at least to me) that the Maiar are supposed to be along the lines of fey or Aes Sidhe, or maybe nature spirits, but that still leaves a VAST amount of room for interpretation.ย  I would make finding the right images very difficult.ย  I would be interesting to try to draw it, though.ย  I wish I had the skill to do so, but I doubt I could do it justice if I tried.ย  I really need to practice more.ย  LOL!

Any way, I'm glad my suggestions were useful.ย  ย  I look forward to seeing more of your art!

There is a pre-Raphaelite feeling to this painting, which I like a great deal.

Really? I don't like the perspective here...

True, the perspective would probably work better with a 45-degree shift, but the focus of Dior and the opened coffer was the appropriate central focus.

Well done! A superb depiction of one of my favorite scenes from all of Tolkien's writings.

Wow, this scene is fantastic! And reading the lines again evokes a sort of... nostalgia and wonder, especially when coupled with the picture. Your Dior is so fantastic! The robes! His hair! And I do agree this isn't a common scene to draw at all, which makes it all the more interesting

Haven't seen this scene illustrated before, I must say, neither is Dior a common subject. That said, I like your Dior. He's a bit Luthien-y, but that's exactly what he should be like (even his Grandpa Thingol thinks so). And OMG, their hair, I want to touch it (if only I could do so without getting arrow-ed to death...), it's so well done!

Yes,I prefer to choose subjects who did not become too common. The biggest problem is the details of appearance of characters - with many of them too little information...hair color, height and so on.For example,I was able to make the queen Berutiel blonde, though many would prefer black hair. It's even interesting.Like a game.
And thanks for the kind words about the hair^^

This was a great choice of a scene to depict! I've never seen an illustration of it before, and it is a touching moment...
