Description Concept art from "Reboot", season III. This was always one of my favourites. "The Episode With No Name", originally set on Escher World, needed three new Guardians. She was my favourite, though I seem to remember she ended out looking much nastier in the final show.

Sir, if I am reading you correctly you drew Warplanets stuff as well?
Would it be available on your deviantart account? I have not yet been able to locate it.

Sorry, I was unclear. I never did anything for Warplanets unfortunately.

If I remember correctly, she also didn't have those bad-ass cyborg-y arms either in the show. I think we can all agree that yer version is 100% better. She looked mean as all Hell in the show.

I thought she DID have the arms...?

Had to go back and check. Sure enough, she DID have the arms, but they didn't rly stand out as much as I was expecting. At least that one her was right.

Oh I remember this lady, she was cool!

Loved watching AndrAIa lay her out flat.

I really liked this character, but I would have liked to have seen her more in the show...

Yeah. I thought this whole set of fresh Guardians were going to be recurring characters. Sadly it was not to be...

Oh well. Grateful we got to see her at all! ^_^

She also appears a bit more ethnic here than in the show, far more beautiful too. You never see stockier women in the show. They're all a bunch of stretched stringbeans.

It's interesting looking back at all my old drawings, and realizing that by today's standards (at least in pop media) most of my women are stocky and flat-chested : P Whereas compared to real life, they're generally pretty fit and normal looking!

More what I meant there, yes. She's normal-looking. If this design were in the show, I think I'd have taken more interest in some of the background characters. You can believe she'd have a nasty side, but there's a person there.

Here's how she ended up , along with her companions. They made her face very harsh and angular.

Am I allowed to say yuck? I was very sad to see her end out so nasty looking. I think it's always a lazy choice to make your conflicted villains look evil. Much more interesting storytelling if she looked like she was nice!

And I can't believe that I'd forgotten they just took my two designs for the male guardian and made it two separate dudes!

Negaduck9 In reply to SteamPoweredMikeJ [2013-01-11 17:30:20 +0000 UTC]

She didn't seem conflicted at all to me. She was just a Bad Guy. Daemon turned her evil. (I'm guessing Mainframe's ides of Daemon changed a tad between seasons 3 and 4.)

Well, the impression I was given when I was briefed on what to draw (I was never once actually handed a script), was that these were good Guardians that had been turned bad, which to my mind meant they should LOOK good, and surprise us when the suddenly did bad things.

Ah, I understand. That would have made more sense, but that's not how it was played in this episode. It was Black Hats versus White Hats, which I guess is appropriate for a western-type story. Also, since AndrAIa killed the Female Viral Guardian (by stabbing her in the neck with her projectile fingernails--did you say this was a kiddie cartoon?!) I'm guessing the Powers That Be wanted to make her worth killing in the eyes of the viewer.

On the other hand, in season 4 the viral guardians were much more sympathetic. They were the Bad Guys, yes, but they were brainwashed into believing that Daemon was all that was right and good in the net. They grinned like ecstatic cultists. Lemme tell you, it was chilling to see that smile on Turbo and Matrix. But they still had other emotions, and didn't want to hurt their friends; they wanted to help spread the "good word" of Daemon's infection.

Mmmm. See, I definitely find that second take on it much more interesting... but then I always love stories where the 'heroes' and 'villains' are all shades of grey...

I so very agree with you. When the "Reboot ReBoot" campaign was going on, I was lobbying hard for the Virus character not to be just another Black Hat. Take a chance, try writing a Virus as a person, not just an antagonist! Alas, that did not come to pass.

Waaaay back when, I had seen ReBoot season 3 and Season 4 looked as if it was never to be. So... I wrote fanfic, both to cover the hunt for Daemon and about the origin of Megabyte, Hexadecimal, and the Twin City. And I did blur the boundaries between good and bad; the difference might be where you stand.

At least we have Hexadecimal. She developed from a dangerous nutcase to a full-fledged character who actually had thoughts and feelings.

Yeah your version is way prettier.

And I think her kid sister was also in Daemon's corps.

WandererRiha In reply to SteamPoweredMikeJ [2013-01-11 04:08:04 +0000 UTC]

Yeah they "recycled" several characters for the movies, mainly as background and minor roles.

SteamPoweredMikeJ In reply to WandererRiha [2013-01-11 08:15:00 +0000 UTC]

Well, makes sense... saves a LOT of money to not have to build everything from scratch.

Of course, that's why Stanley Kubrick destroyed all the props and costumes from 2001 - So they wouldn't get re-used in other, cheaper productions.

WandererRiha In reply to Reixma [2013-01-09 21:20:22 +0000 UTC]

Eee-yup. I think it's the first or second ep of the Daemon arc. She's in the purple-and-white armor and carrying an egg-shaped capsule. AndrAIa tries to talk her down, Matrix is no help with this, and she ends up dying in what amounts to a suicide mission to plant Daemon's infection.

Nameless Green Guardian Chick! Yeah, she's much more severe on the show - although they reused the model for a much nicer-seeming (but similarly infected) Guardian in season 4. (This seems to confuse people a lot, particularly since both had green skin and purple hair, though in different shades.)
