Description
One of the earliest drawings I ever did that actually reached a professional level of quality, probably from 1990. These two ships were from the Traveller RPG, and it was printed a couple of times in Traveller's Digest (1990) and the MegaTraveller Journal (1993).Thanks to yafl for digging up the deets!

Having the boarding tube on the Curiser's underside makes a lot of sense - given the huge wingspan and fins, how can the ship dock 'alongside' another vessel easily?
Another good touch is the turret on the scoutship - pointing away from the Cruiser. Obviously a requirement dictated by the inspection team... "You even so much as think about moving that turret, and you'll be in so much trouble your ancestors will feel it!"

Glad folks are enjoying it! Yeah, the Patrol Cruiser was always one of my favourite ship designs.

There is a reason we had multiple belly turrets.

Very cool First time I've seen this wonderful illustration, but as a Traveller I've been in this situation countless times. Oh, those pesky Patrol Cruisers

Thank you for sharing this.
I am quite baffled that I have never seen that piece before. Especially because I've tried to get anything available regarding the patrol cruiser on the web or printed when I started modelling the ship [link] .
This is an instant favorite of mine. Great image.
And the second depicting the rarely seen passage tube, I would say.

I stand corrected! Thanks for digging that up. I'm pretty sure the drawing itself predates that by a few years though - There's a style to my shading (ie: inconsistent line direction and frequency) that was gone by 1992.

After some more browsing I see they recycled it from Digest 20 (1990); that issue also shows you transitioning to using the MJ-in-a-circle glyph.

Wow, you're really on top of this ; ) I'll change the date in the text here to 1990.
I seem to have quite a few drawings I did for issues of the Digest that I can no longer find.
The odd thing about the MJ-in-a-circle signature is that I thought I switched cleanly to the later MJ-Block, but I seem to have used both for a couple of years there...
