Description
I chose photojournalism for this piece.I don't usually share this part of his life except to those who know me.
Throughout my gallery he is either hiding behind a shadow, a smile, a pose.
In this image, it is raw, it is his reality, and a major part of his life. This is him most vunrable, yet not at all weak.
After looking at this image, I have now decided to put my sonβs life into pictures and not words.
I will eventually put it all together and format it to disk and give it to him for his 21st birthday.
I want to document his life from the beginning of his journey until he ventures into the world by himself.
As he gets older, the story still stays the same as far as his health goes, but the adventure certainly twists and turns as he grows up.
He is a champion in his own right and carries the courage and will more than that of any person I know.

I write this thing called Letters to Alex which are letters to my son about him growing up -and I also plan to give it to him when he leaves home.
So I must now read up on your life and son -this intrigues me. I applaud your courage and his.
I also think of Annie Leibovitz' new book out where she documented her lover Susan Sontag's struggle with cancer until death and it was therapeutic for both. Owning it, being the one in control, fearless. Good for you!

Thankyou, We have some major health hurdles coming up this year, it's heartbreaking watching your son waste away, but he never feels sorry for himself..I do feel sorry for him at times, but he tells me to get over it...lol..he certainly is a champion!

As long as there's a breath left in your body, there's hope. As long as mankind
has prowled the earth, miracles have happened, restoring life and health.
As long as you have a loving heart, God will send much warmth and love
to you in return. As long as you've been alive, God has been watching over you
and answering your prayers. As long as the heaven and stars exist,God will be there for you, and your beautiful mom and us are always here for you.
A little prayer for your son Steavie. I trully wish him all the best. I believe if I could pull through my cancer then everyone can!

He's so lovely Steavie. You are both such heroes. I know the eyes a mother sees through. All the joys we see, even in the small things, and all of the pain that we would gladly share or carry for them. You know, my friend that I carry you in my heart always and in my thoughts and prayers.

It is difficult to watch our children suffer.
It is heartwarming to see them endure and overcome the next obstacle.
You sound like a brave parent. My thoughts are with you both.

Wow. That's awe-inspiring. Just like all the other comments have outlined before me. Although a photo can never truly do any reallife experience justice, this has come the closest I've seen in a long time. Such a great idea, concept and reality behind the camera that took this shot. From the circumstance, it appears that your son is leading a tough life health wise. Forgive my naivety, but I stumbled across this photo because it immediately attracted me amidst a long page of others. What I'm trying to say is that you have captured the true nature of it all. Life. And to your viewers, this is magic. Your son should feel special, despite everything that he'd going through. He sounds like a special sort of kid, too. He's quite handsome. He'll be breaking hearts before too long. Tell him to get better on behalf of all of us, okay.
Once again, great photo. It's so very moving.

He certainly is a champion, I know this. But, then, he has a wonderful mentor, a loving and caring mentor-mom, who gives him a sense of freedom, within the confines of his health...with your unconditional love.
This is such an expressive photo, filled with emotion, light, and such love, from deep within your heart and soul.

I'd like to say thank you for sharing this photo. From one photographer to another, I know how hard to can be sometimes to show some things we see, however this was much harder for you because this is someone very close to you and whom you love. This photo is truly amazing, not for it's composure, not for it's colour tone or angle, but for the story it tells and the emotion it captivates. Again, thank you for sharing this with all of us. It is much appreciated by those of us who understand it.
