I consider the "chibi" Link found in Smash Bros. Brawl and the one in Wind Waker to be two separate entities... Why? Fairly obvious: the latter is a friendly, easy-going, hilarious little tike taking whatever hits him and hitting it right back, and basking in the glory of a beautiful cel-shaded effect... but the former is a serious-faced, serious business, Twilight Princess wannabe that stole Young Link's moveset and place on the roster... no cel-shaded effect, nothing even close to resembling it.And there you have it.

Woah, woah, woah. Toon Link is a great addition to the series, and a better representation of the multiple Links concept. The Toon Link design has been in more games than the Young Link design, and it helps represent the artstyle diversity of the Zelda series too.

The point is that Wind Waker's Link is a very colorful, very different art styled Link bursting with personality and attack diversity... and the one represented in SSBB (Toon Link) is a dull representation of the former, merely copy-pasting a majority of Young Link's moves and trashing his great artsy style to look as terribly desaturated as TP Link.

Well if it helps, he's colourful again in Smash Bros 4.

Toon Link is a deformed post-Majora's Mask Link. We all know that.
