The pauldrons and chest are slightly overdetailed, I'd remove one plate on each.
The wings and arms look great though. Wings should be almost twice as big if going for realistic physics, but that's stylistic.

re wings: was thinking of the character using them to glide rather than pushing own weight up/flying, but then again bees have pretty small wings in comparison to their bodies and still are able to fly

Mass is a cubic function of body size, while wing surface area is a square function of wing size. So something human sized needs very large wings relative to its body. Same principle is why insects are so strong relative to their weight.
But yeah trouble is making it realistic breaks the whole insect look.

cooool beautiful Steelsuit bug :3 really nice gradients of color and shinies, the metal parts are slim but still look strong, and the wings are lovely and translucent. I like how the "muscle" under the armor looks so organic, it contrasts nicely!
