Description
I keep forgetting that DA is not like Y-Gal and I don't have to tell you how long this took to draw, who it's for or what mediums I used! 8D NEENER!... Okay, I'll tell you!
It took me about three hours!
It's for !
I used 0.5mm mechanical pencil, 0.5mm ballpoint pen, and Roseart colored pencils!
I don't know where my spelling went there for a second where I started spelling "science" as "sience" *facewall*

Do you mean digitally or traditionally? Because the techniques are completely different.

um, well in this case traditionally (I don't have a computer tablet, so the only way I can do things digitally is using my mouse 2 draw, and that never comes out very good, so I stick w/ sketching in my notebook and coloring it in w/ colored pencil xD)

Just because you can only use a computer mouse doesn't mean you can't still do digital art though, that's a common misconception. Some of my best pieces were done with a computer mouse (though they did take painstakingly long). Example: [link] was done with a computer mouse!
Anyway, when it comes to adding the shine into hair using colored pencils, I usually think about the hair as if it was in three dimensions and designate a part that seems to curve outward to have the shin in it as if it was catching the light. When I "add" the shine, I'm not actually adding anything, I'm leaving it. I Leave the space white where the hair is supposed to be shiny, and to give it a more natural look as the strands of hair would all catch the light differently, I use small, light strokes that taper off towards the end as they approach the epicenter of the shine. I'm not just leaving a block of white, I'm making the color fade into white by having a bunch of strokes lead up into the shine and dissipate.
I hope that explanation helps. Another word of advice, when you're coloring hair, you will always get the best result if you make your colored pencils flow with the tresses as opposed to just shading the hair in like a block.
