Description
This piece has been a long time coming. It is very important to me, so I will provide an explanation of what it means to me.

It all began with my opinion that rigid morals about art, sexuality, morals, literature, and anything else that makes us human can be extremely dangerous. This is most often found in religious contexts, but it is not confined to them. I began a series called the Unevolved, which featured naked males that had their genitals between their legs and black angel wings on their backs. The idea behind this is that intellectual and sexual evolution stagnates if it is not allowed to take it's own course. The most common way this is done is by ignoring exploration entirely, thus the genitals being forcibly absent. The wings represented the holy attitude this spawns, yet it was called the unevolved, because I felt this was a very backwards way of thinking and living.

Then came the evolved. It had a much more complex meaning to me. It began when I went through a long and confusing period of depression, in which I had symptoms of cutting and anxiety. It felt right, but I knew it was wrong and unhealthy somehow in the long-run. I began to take up art and music to keep myself productive and not destructive. It has been a long battle, and is still not completely over. I feel though that the self-exploration I was forced to go through made me a much better person. I was facing my demons, even if it meant injury. So the idea is that instead of ignoring anything that people find confusing or sometimes distasteful and scary, like sexuality or the darker parts of the mind, we must embrace them and sort everything out for ourselves. The veins represent my life flowing into the part of my body I create art and music with, instead of cutting myself and having my thoughts come out in a chaotic manner. I first photoshopped this idea in a deviation called Mind River . I will leave you with what I orginally wrote about it:

the blood that used to flow freely through my veins became a self-inflicted symbol of my pains.

now it flows through channels, instead of slashed skin, to harvest life from all these broken years.
