Melil-class light carrier
Named for the Lastreian goddess of motherhood, the Melil-class light carrier comes in answer to the call for a carrier capable of deploying Long Lance deep-space combat craft as well as atmospheric-capable fighters on deep patrol where a fleet carrier would be excessive and a cruiser just wouldn't be enough. Mounting minimal offensive armament (a handful of directed energy nodes and heavy missile cells), the Melil relies on her standard complement of 28 Long Lance fighters and escorts to engage enemy warships. As with most Magisterial warships, the Melil-class retains center line forward-facing rail cannons, though the center weapon is replaced with a high-output antimatter-salted directed energy node, in order to maximize internal hangar space that would otherwise be occupied by the barrel of a rail cannon. Her defensive armament is formidable, including 74 Skywall CIWS and over 500 light VLS emplacements launching an array of Viper and Diamondhead anti-air missiles. An exceptional asset that can be found supporting scout groups and protecting shipping lanes throughout the empire, the Melil-class light carrier lives up to her namesake, keeping her charges safe with fierce determination.
