In the 1970s, Osamu Tezuka entered a long slump, which he himself struggled with, and it was an incredibly dark and difficult period for him. The 1970s was the era of student movements. Students favored manga like Shirato Sanpei's "Kamui Den," and Tezuka's art style had become outdated (though it now looks quite fashionable). Manga that featured eroticism, grotesque, and nonsense began to receive praise, and Go Nagai's "Harenchi Gakuen" became a huge hit. In an attempt to compete with "Harenchi Gakuen" (his attempt to compete was amazing), Tezuka created several works that dealt with sexuality. These were "Apollo no Uta," which was serious, and "Yakeppachi no Maria," which was a comedy. They were advertised as sex education manga. "Yakeppachi no Maria" is a romantic drama between a reckless young boy and a love doll (!), and I loved this cheerful and innocent Maria.
