This is cool and gruesome at the same time, (wich is good for me) and commenting on the meaning of the painting, it seems that since it;s surrealism it comes directly from the subconscious so one cannot really explain the meaning, since we are in the conscious part of the mind at the moment.... well that's my opinion.
as a matter of fact, when somebody asks me about the meaning of any of my paintings, I always answer, if I could explain it in words, I'd be a writer

You are right about your interpretation of surrealisim and your answer is quite good! Mostly I react the same way, otherwise I answer sometimes: Art is not a supermarket product, there is no list of the ingredients and there is no manual how to look up on. I worked for hours and days to paint and to expose. now it's your time for interpretation tell me what you see?

I see that the guy in the middle does not enjoy being there, maybe it has to do with the smells around him: fish, a penis, and some unrecognizable parts of insects, even the hand that's painting has a not so healthy color, in a flash that's what I see

Ones dreams and visions are sometimes very scary but they reveal about us frequently more than we imagined The visions haunt us in our dreams till we realize them on canvas, and carry a message to us that we understand only after it has been painted. Your work always stuns me since you capture these amazing visions that stirr up my soul.

Mostly is our inner world, full of wishes, desires and fears the frame and the border of ourselves.

Okay, so your subject matter is a bit scary, to me anyways but Wow! can't argue with your talent! The more I look, the more I see and the first thing I see hidden in there is the phalus(to be polite), and bits and pieces of other things that I think I can identify. Your style and composition is amazing!

Your welcome. Well, first I see the central face and then the hand with the paintbrush, then the pale profile on the right and below, the fish face with the nasty teeth and scales that overlap the face. Then of course the phalus, (I tend to move clockwise hehe) and what is possibly a green crustacean coiled up above that, then I see a red crustacean coiled up near the hair. I think I am looking at a small fish dangling with a beautiful blue fob hanging from its mouth. Do I see labia next to the phalus or is that my twisted imagination? I am probably giving you a very pedistrian and literal perspective on what I see and I am sure that you have filled it with symbolism that I am not 'seeing'. There is so much to look at. Full view is recomended for sure!

Hey you have a great imagination, I see things now i didn't see before, like the little fish, red crustacean.Whats a labia?
Telling so much about my image provokes me to leave some words.
A lot of things just happens in my surrealistic images they are not constructed. Some elements are connected with an idea or used as a symbol, some "symbols" are not known to me they move through my images like symbols through dreams unknown to the dreamer. These elements are coming from my inner world and the painting is a window to that for the viewer. While I'm painting and composing a lot of thoughts crossing my head and interpretations are coming and going. I don't try to force an interpretation thats no symbolism but symbols are speaking to the viewer. These images are like a own world, you have to interpret it your self. Its not like a schoolbook! (telling you what you have to learn) you should explore it.
My interpretation
Anyhow it's a self-portrait and the inside is out but it in a very narrow room (the wall), the wold inside that room represents the impulses behind my painting hand holding the brush and the bloom. The meanings of the used symbols are more a miracle than a presentation of a meaning. hope I could write something understandable.

Imagination is not my best quality but thanks. Thank you for giving such insite to your creative process. It seems to be a real personal journey for you that you can tap into your inner self and then produce a work that is truly a vision. All art is open to interpretation and different pple will see things that others do not. I think that your process is amazing and to do a self portrait this way is very brave as you have opened yourself up to others and they may praise or criticize your work and therefore, yourself. I do not have that kind of depth to my process but maybe someday. By the way, 'labia' means part of the female genitalia. I may have interpreted that incorrectly. Cheers. P.S. you were very clear in your explanation!

Thank you for your words, imagination, you have it I see it in the tropical plants maybe your are a bit scary to use it. Just try to do something without an aim and you will see it flows out of your hand.

The only painting I ever did just out of my head was Beyond the beyond. I think you liked that one so, there ya go. I guess I should try more like that. And yes I am a bit cautious about my imagination and inner self in general.

Yes I like that, the red is a bit dominant and I see its from inside. But there is another beyond the twilight?

Yes, it was also from my imagination but I did not like it as much and the stretchers of the canvas got terribly warped so I guess that was a sign of it not being what I had hoped it would be. Ah well, try, try again! I had hoped to do a third one to make a kind of set, but no inspiration yet. I wish I could paint like you do. It seems like such a pure way to express yourself. Cheers!
