"Letterbox" is the black borders on the top & bottom of the photo. It's a cinematic term, for when you display a 16:9 movie on a 3:4 TV screen, sometimes you add black on the top and bottom to fill out the image... You did the same in the photo, I just wondered why.

Well, I add this "letterbox" on all of my photo, especially on portraits, because I find that it gives another atmosphere to the photo, I don't know how to explain it.

I think it detracts from the experience. You have a lovely composition and format to begin with, and then you make it square and uninteresting. Just my opinion though.
