Description so, here's yet ANOTHER old sketchbook page...
and here's what i said about the first old sketchbook page i previously posted..."so, back before i took to the china marker on the last season of BATMAN BEYOND, i used to just fill up page after page in these cheap sketchbooks. i think my bosses and coworkers thought i was an anal retentive loony(probably still do), but i think at least all the pencil mileage was respected. sometimes i miss those days of just looking at an empty sketchbook page and figuring out, "how can i fill up every possible nook and cranny of this page?"

This rules Steve. I always enjoyed looking through your sketchbooks -- sexy dames, creepy monsters and superheroes. What more is there in life that's fun to draw?

I really like the top-left one. I draw a lot and I seriously suck. I'd love to see how you take a photo and derive an illustration from it. I can't seem to reinvent what I see, I draw what I see, particularly the silhouette. This stuff is awesome.

thanks so much! hmmnnn....i think its important to think of the photo as a source of information but not the ONLY source. it can be very easy to turn off your brain and just "copy" an image, then your basically just disconnecting/disengaging and going thru the motions. if u r drawing something u need to understand (to SOME degree) your intention, why are u drawing something?(even if its just to have fun), with this knowledge then when u study some bit of reference or photo or model u r drawing with your brain engaged thinking about pushing what u see, interpreting it, not just "copying". i don't know if that is helpful or even makes sense. but that's my initial response to your question.

Thanks, that helps... logically I get it, but the process isn't intuitive. I guess practice, but no payback for doing so yet. Maybe it'll happen one day.
