'We've been going about this all wrong. This Mr. Stay Puft's okay! He's a sailor, he's in New York; we get this guy laid, we won't have any trouble!'Without doubt, my favourite character, from my favourite movie, played by my favourite actor, ever!
I've been wanting to draw a new Ghostbusters pic for ages, particularly one of Peter Venkman.
And with all the talk of a new Ghostbusters movie, i thought why not do it more as he would look now.
I struggled a bit getting Murray's likeness but all in all i've had the most fun doing this pic, learned a fair few things along the way.
Painted in Photoshop, using Wacom Bamboo.

That's seriously amazing. Only one thing I'd say is that I don't think Venkman would grow a beard, it'd seem like too much maintenece for him to keep up with. Keep in mind, he doesn't do his laundry lol
Overall, absolutely amazing and I wish they'd finally knock out one more GB movie!

Haha, i actually agree man. I was in total Steve Zissou mode so went ahead with the beard. Wasn't until after when i thought "Venkman wouldn't have a beard!" Haha.

Thank you very much! I was concerned i hadn't nailed the likeness. Mr Murray has one of those faces, where one tiny thing out of place throws you off.

Great piece! He is also my favorite character from my favorite movie.
That said, I don't know how I feel about a third Ghostbuster movie, and seeing all those characters in their late 50's/early 60's. Judging from the recent Hollywood track record at reviving 80's franchises I feel it would be best if they don't try and make Ghostbusters III (after all, GBII was lame enough).
That doesn't change the fact that I really like this Peter Venkman portrait!

I love it, but a beard is not really '
He'd be shaved, because that's the character. Have you seen Harold Ramis (Egon Spengler) recently? Here is a picture: [link] He has a great big bushy beard and a big afro almost. He looks nothing like he did as Egon, but shave the beard, do the hair a little, lose 20 pounds and he'll look like an aged Egon. Which in this day and age in Hollywood they can do almost anything.
I went off topic, but I would love to see more if you decided to do the rest of them. Like I said I love this, you did GREAT. You captured his likeness perfectly, I just do not like his beard.

Yeah i'm well aware of how they're all looking these days, and you're probably right about the beard.
Just as the picture was coming along and i starting thinking of it as a more moody piece, the beard just seemed to fit, slightly rougher looking Venkman, like the years have been hard on him.
but yeah, ideally if there was a new movie i'd like to see a good ol' cleaned up cocky Pete Venkman for sure :]
