Description
Edit: Adjusted the colors (and changed the title). I think it's getting better. So, yeah. I'm trying to do more sequential coloring work so I can show to some more editors possibly at WWPhilly. I found this piece by Chris Bachalo and Tim Townsend [link] and gave it a whirl. But I'm not 100% happy with it, and I don't know why. I'm a firm believer that my colors can "work" on any artist, but I wonder if I'm mistaken. I wanted some feedback from you guys who have fresher eyes than me to tell me what needs fixing. Thanks.

hey, NC, i think that what is missing is your adjustment to ppl's styles. some ppl have this type of really engulfing coloring style that you'll know instantly who's painting and why. example: morry hollowell... richard isanove, and a little bit of laura martin. these ppl are intensely talented and at a whole new level of 3 dimensionality to characters. (look at a thor page with-out laura martin coloring... issue #9) and you'll see what i mean.
OTHER colorists though, like to adapt to their artist, and right now the one that comes to mind is dave stewart. he colors hellboy completely differently then... lets say some superman batman issues he's done. the supes/bats is very comicbook-y feeling.... while obviously hellboy has its solid undertones.
i think chris bachelo for example is an artist that require more solid colors and less of an air-brush feel. and in this piece you're essentially going against what he's setting down.
i think your color pallette was good for the scene, but maybe the way of going about it wasn't so much.

Dude if you wanna see a good colorist you should really check out Laura Martin. Her new work on Thor is just amazing. She also did some cool work on The Ultimates.

Oh yeah, I know about Laura Martin! She's doing (or did) Astonishing X-Men too. Yeah, if I could be half as good as her, I'd be happy!

You know what? Your colors here are too "hand-made" like!!! They lack the computer feel that all the comicbooks have nowadays!! Pump the digital touch up more, dude!!
I know what you're capable of and I'm sure you will find a way to overcome that!!!
Keep up the great work, Steve!!!!

I really can agree with :iconwyhterwing: it's good? But maybe you don't feel so good about it becuase it's not the kind of work you're used to colouring??
