Description
Strange noises down in the basement... It looks like things are about to turn ugly!A Lovecraftian beast originally done as a concept for an unrealized monster movie... reworked about 18 months ago... rediscovered today...
The creature was a line drawing that was scanned and painted over. The environment was a 3D corridor mixed together with a photo - unfortunately I have no information on the source at this point
The soldier was painted over a reference photo from the U.S. military's online photo journal (my existing link to the site no longer works - if anyone knows where they've moved it to please let me know and I'll include it!)
Photoshop, Lightwave 3D, pencil

Very like this work.
Maybe because it looks like one of my old ideas...
Is there possible for You (or me) to look into opposite mind,
or we are mysteriously sharing some thoughts???

Thanks - I'm glad you like it!
I am never sure where ideas come from. Sometimes it seems like we receive them like radio signals

It reminds me of the AVP game with a Lovecraftian creature as the Alien.
The marines were so fu**ed in the game - having to face Predators and different kinds of Aliens with a pack of bullets and a radar found on a cereal box - that the poor bastards learned to run backwards as fast as they ran forwards.

Looks great, I love the way the picture is slightly blurred around the edges bringing a greater focus on the chitinous shiny monster. Just one thing though, it looks to me like both of them are about to be run over by a train in the background. Only they won't because there are no tracks.
Unless it's a hover train.
Just sayin'

Then again the train I saw may just be lights in the distance... didn't notice that the tunnel was curving slightly :S

this kind of proves a theory I had a while ago. I have been pondering about it and here is the answer...right in front of me. It was a question whether you can use all means to produce a finished image. And the answer is yes

I think you certainly can! This is more of a mix than I usually do - but I think whatever it takes to get the idea across - it's totally okay to do

Thats great to hear. You know, there are some people who call it cheating but I dont see it that way. If you have something to convey, no matter what, you should be able to use all the available resources. Now I can start mixing stuff without a bad conciousness (did I spell it right?). I just feel that your work is inspirational and to be honest with you I kind of used it as my own compass towards my next level because I feel that there is alot of material and ideas that motivate me, and you create worlds and ideas that are believable and interesting.

Thanks very much!
The fact is, in doing concepts for production, getting things put together quickly is definitely a priority. So you use anything and everything. If I have more time, I like to paint the whole image, or make a full 3D model. But on the job, it's whatever it takes to just get the idea across. Cheating - maybe so. But usually once the idea is more solid in everyone's minds, then you are able to devote more time & care to make a nice artwork

Oh so you need to make fast decisions and have confidence enough to get in and be sure you can do the job. I understand...What I like about art is storytelling and itΒ΄s power to inspire. But also the craft. Its just something about it that makes me happy and wanting more. It motivates me to do great things.
SO in a production you work loosely on the characters, environments and so on. After everybody is happy you go into detailing and fleshing out the idea. That sounds like a good way of tackling budget, fast decisions and time. Its something I will remember. I have started working a little on my short music video. IΒ΄m creating it while learning and so far it has been a nice way of spending time. Anyways, I have to dive into 3D again...texturing time. I hope to learn alot.
