one is for sorrow but this one has brought me joy (being a Toon fan, I have a soft spot for mags )
I love that you captured the very moment it is about to leave the post, even though it looks as if it is to fall off it, beak first - great dynamic.
excellent capture, nice depth of field too

Thank you for your kind remarks, I was just walking back to the car when I spotted it on the post. Β Took several shots, but it managed to just keep it's back to me until the last moment. Β

I've been chasing magpies for a while, the must dislike having their pictures taken

very elusive little buggers. I need a better camera and tele lens, hard to sneak up close..

they are very smart birds

makes it all the more rewarding when you get them 'on film' ... I have high hopes - there are some 4 or 5 round the house, normally very active in the early morning when I want to sleep a bit longer. not to be seen when I have the time for potographs.

and they can't be bribed - I've tried food, and shiny things

like I said- smart.

They are omnivorousΒ birds and can usually be tempted by some raw meat strips as they like high protein carrion

I'll be damned if I share my steak with them just to get a picture.. LOL

maybe I'll ask the butcher for leftovers.

on the downside - there are lots of other carnivorous birds out here in the sticks - I might end up like in a Hitchcock film

Would make a good photo with all the birds, like a Hitchcock film
