Oh, don't get me wrong; It's the most gloriously pissed off looking thing I've seen in some time.
But from a flavor perspective not a whole lot different than her previous card, just angrier-looking.

I must say, I'm impressed, she's almost always on fire which equates to being pissed off. Then you took it a step further.

Thanks! I'll have to work a little harder to usurp that top spot. Who is it, Donato? Komarck? Walker? Guay? Terese? *Shakes his fists at the sky!* I'll get you yet, better artists!

(Actually, one of my favorite things about artists is how friendly, helpful, and humble most are. Like all of the above artists. It's like a mutual admiration society.)

Isn't this the artwork for Chandra Ablaze aswell?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SteveArgyle In reply to Bamboofox [2009-09-13 01:26:52 +0000 UTC]

Yes, it is. We're all super-sneaky, and use code-names and such while we're working. So I didn't know what the final card name would be.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Bamboofox In reply to SteveArgyle [2009-09-13 16:00:05 +0000 UTC]

Ah, figures Wizards would be all super-sneaky. Bang-up job once again though, the expression is awesome and seeing the final card puts the tone of the piece in even better perspective.

Chandra makes things go boom. This is probably the best contextual explanation of a piece of artwork ever. Why can't I write essays about cool stuff like this in my crummy art history class?

First off, Badass Boom Spell. i'm just starting on a personal 3d model of her and while gathering reference i "discovered" your site (score one for the internet!) i thought to myself "hmm that is one BA (as in Bad Ass) drawing" then i said "Self why haven't you gotten off your lazy rump and "discovered" this dood's work earlier" needless to say i'm conflicted on if i should be pleased or angered at my laziness but i agree that your full of cheezy delicious awesomesauce! now i've gotta find my credit card and order some prints. BOOYAH!

i went to your site and found a buffet of eye candy for my inspiration folder and reminded me of the days i played magic (could afford the time and money). i don't know if it's your creative concepting or your poses or lighting but i rarely find so much art from a single person that i truly find inspirational. not to say i'm an art snob or anything but i hope you get the compliment there heh. The Chandra model i'm hoping to begin this weekend after i concept out some areas that i haven't figured out like her back and perhaps where those tubes go, maybe try to give them a purpose... also toying with a slanting her a bit steampunk but i think i wanna keep her character more intact for this piece. GAH rambling thanks for the response and i'll be honored to show ya the model along the way. Keep up the fantastic work!

Pretty frickin' awesome, man. Love all the fire effects! What flavour of Jones Soda would this be, exactly? Tobasco?

SteveArgyle In reply to Treyos [2010-05-10 08:04:50 +0000 UTC]

I too, was hoping for an interesting Jones Soda flavor. At least something like a cinnamon. But no, it's just fruit punch.

Treyos In reply to SteveArgyle [2010-05-10 12:51:04 +0000 UTC]

Fruit punch? Seriously? Had better be the best fruit punch the world has ever seen. Still, better than turkey flavour. If I see it on the shelves, I might just buy a bottle for the artwork!

Thanks for doing justice to Chandra. Naturally, I mean no ill will towards Kev Walker who painted Chandra in the Dual Jace vs. Chandra deck, but I wasn't fond of the art. I was worried when I heard Chandra was back again for Zendikar and set myself up for disappointment, but seriously Steve, you blew me away! The art rivals her Lorwyn, if not surpasses it. I expect no less from you and I just get wowed more and more. I hope you and Wizards have a very long lasting relationship so I can see even more

Excellent piece, such a stunning work of art. From the concept and composition, to the expression and pose; this piece screams pure epic and jumps right off the screen. And the lighting and effects really accent the piece perfectly. Great style and technique, very talented work.

I got a couple of these while I was at Prerelease! I noticed the artwork on the bottle, and I thought to myself, "Wow, that's quite possibly the best rendition of Chandra I've seen so far. I wonder who the artist is... *checks the side of the bottle* ...Aha, Steve Argyle! Well, that explains why the quality is so phenomenal."

I know that sounds like I'm trying to be flattering to the extent of brown-nosery (which I now deem to be a word), but that was my actual reaction. You did a magnificent job with the highlights. Once again, the details really shine through and succeed in complementing the piece, without negatively impacting it. As always, I could choose any hair on Chandra's head and easily follow it from root to tip, and back again. (This is especially true with your Naya Battlemage artwork.) Your accurate portrayal of the human (or in this case, planeswalker) face is also prominently displayed, as you can clearly see her fierce expression as shown by her furrowed brow, her blazing eyes, and open, roaring mouth. Furthermore, the chips and dents in the armored pieces of her outfit outwardly exemplify her fiery temper.

I haven't even addressed the detail of the fire or the cloth in the piece, and I've already practically written an entire dissertation about this artwork. Such details are impossible to detect on the Jones bottle and on card printings, which is why I'm so enthralled when I see your art in its full-sized glory on deviantART. I'm honestly surprised that you haven't received more attention and praise from the dA community.
