Description Denied ascension for his body corrupted by evil, the would-be King was betrayed by his jealous brother, stabbing the fallen healer. The Shield of the King is conflicted between the corrupted man he once swore to serve and the arrogant-yet-still-pure-blooded successor, all the while the Oracle tries to plea to the very Crystal that forsake the messiah, despite the Messenger's best efforts to protect the Oracle.

Inspired by both the upcoming Episode Ardyn Prologue and The Taking of Christ by Caravaggio, I was motivated to draw this for the last few days. Because Ardyn is kinda the Jesus of FFXV, it would be fitting to be on the nose about it as he is the tragic who only wanted to save his people. Somnus is a smug jackass but the conflict with his brother is more Cain than Judas. I originally wanted Gilgamesh to be exactly the centurion in the painting and grab Ardyn but as a nod to the Ardyn/Gilagmesh shippers, I added some fingers around Somnus as if Gilgamesh was trying to stop the younger brother. Then there's Gentiana in more ancient clothing, serving Elia Mills Fleuret the same way she serves Lunafreya. The last person in the background is myself because Caraggio also inserted himself in his own painting as a background character but not the focus.

Final Fantasy XV is owned by Square-Enix and The Taking of Christ was made by Caravaggio.
