They are not necessarily polaroid in a literal sense, but this implies the image has not been edited, the model isn't wearing makeup, and they are using natural lighting.

amazing i love photos with natural lighting and no editing (not that i dont like edited pictures am just more of a natural all real and you kind of pictures)

all that aside, this is a really wonderful shot, its just you and the background. eventhough some of the same colors that are in your skin are in the background, those are darker and you stand out very nicely
