Description
This was the art for the cover to "Sensual Distress" vol. 2. It was originally done as three individual sketches of the same girl, an OC named Penelope Jewel, but I transferred the three sketches onto one sheet of bristol to make this. When coloring, I decided to give each girl her own personality, like the Blonde Superheroine or Fiery Brunette. The colors of the background were made prismatic with coins beneath their feet as a sort of nod to them being the "Treasure at the end of the rainbow."
So anyway, it's Three Penelopes in ropes... Hence, "Three Penny Ropera"... maybe Mack the Knife can cut them down (That's a thinkin' man's joke )
Reno
Sensual Distress vol. 1 & 2 are available at Amazon.

Are they awaiting a harsh (but very glamorous) Mistress? Or perhaps a towering gigantic ebon minotaur ? Surely they are not tied up simply as soft pretty little ivory decorations. (?)

I always like to say that each image has a before and after that exists in the viewers mind. You might ask, "How did they get there?" and "What's going to happen to them next?" So the fact that you're speculating about their fate is exactly what I want people to do with every single drawing.
With this one, with the rainbow and the money, perhaps a Leprechaun captured them to prevent them from stealing his pot of ...spare change? Or maybe Scrooge McDuck has them held captive in the vault where he likes to go swimming. But the girl on top has an expression that lets you know that whatever it is that captured them ... has arrived!

Thank you! One of the advantages of drawing women in creative ways is that the laws of nature don't necessarily have to apply... so I can tie 'em up however I like
To do it in real life is obviously much more challenging... so I have to say, I was impressed with what you've done in your gallery!

Lessee, a "ropera" - no singing, no dancing, but a whole lot of squirming ... I support this!!

I used to play that song in a jazz group I was in, a long time ago. Great song, quite boring to play (for the bassist, at any rate). Happily, your interpretation is far from boring.

Thanks! I really appreciate it (and since you mentioned attire a few times, I should point out that I've always been a huge fan of damsels being in sexy attire when they are distressed )

This image is what first drew my attention to your art. It remains a favorite, too! My girlfriend was irritated with me picking up the book at first. Now she has her own very well read copy (two, actually...... she has certain pictures tagged up around her workspace as pin-up girls, cut out of my first copy!)

I gotta say, that's probably the single best story I've heard about one of my books. I used to joke saying, "Buy two copies! One to read and one to ruin!" ... and also, your girlfriend going from irritated to having her own copy and pinning up pictures from it? Well, it always makes me happy if I can have a small part in corrupting somebody.
Thanks for that!

Lotte Lenya…and even Bobby Darin…would have been delighted to see this.
A real triumph, and deserving of a hearty "Congratulations"!!!

Thanks so much! ...and I realize now I should have named the girls Jenny Diver, Suki Tawdry, and Miss Lotte Lenya!
(...and to those who may have missed the joke, the song "Mack the Knife" comes from the German musical "Threepenny Opera")

COLOR!! Yes! I honestly wish I could color more pieces, but since I do most of these drawings for black and white books, I only really get a chance to color the front and back covers. Other than that I'd just be coloring them for myself, and since it's such a loooooong and tedious process, I never get to do it as much as I'd like to.
But thanks so much!

It is like watching a great movie on a color set versus a black and white set. The story and acting is still great, but it brings a new dimension to the telling. Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year, Mr Reno!
