Description
Rather than do just one special picture to celebrate my ten years on DeviantArt, I came up with an even cooler idea: Go back and remake a bunch of my early pictures and post them on their own ten year anniversaries! So let's kick it off with the very first picture I ever posted , of my video game character Gamma Ray. I'd say she's undergone the most radical design changes since I introduced her — for one thing, she's a female character I created back before I was comfortable giving female furries full humanlike manes, and it wasn't until her second appearance that I'd even decided on her colors. Even her name has changed. Twice. And I've completely revamped the concept for the game she's in. Instead of an Unreal Tournament-style multiplayer game, it's a four-player co-op alien shooter in which each character has a distinct playstyle, sort of like Team Fortress 2 meets Left 4 Dead meets Halo. Gamma Ray, here, is the energy weapons specialist — hence the replacing of her original frag grenade with a Halo-style plasma type. One of these days I'll finally introduce you to her teammates, although I'll give you a hint: You've technically already seen one of them, from a certain angle.
The background has been lifted from a later picture which I don't plan to redo separately anyway, with some slight modifications. Font used is Monofonto , which you might recognize from the Fallout games. And hey, look! I finally got her to look good with colored outlines! *LEVEL UP MUSIC*

Looks like a pretty cool start to your 10th anniversary idea. ^^

With the original, I thought she was male until I read your caption. (A few signs are present but easy to overlook in a sketch.) Even your second pic reveals that you've improved more than I'd noticed, and that was the year I commissioned the Tom Flapwell portrait.
