Is that a colony ship, cargo ship, or a battleship? Looks like a cargo ship.

It's sort of a cross between the first two, but it also serves as a research vessel. The individual I'm designing this ship for was vague on the details, but he did say that it's a commercial ship with a crew of four on a terraforming survey.

Looks pretty big for a vessel with only four crew members, but then again, its systems could be mostly automated.

That's exactly why it has such a small crew compliment, mostly automated systems. Being of the Alien universe it operates under the same principles of the Nostromo, a much bigger vessel crewed by only seven.

Also, when you see the "USCSS" prefix for any sort of ship, it is definitely not military. It stands for "United States Commercial Starship".
