~beza , inspired by Yume Nikki, got this idea to make a surreal RPG, and asked me to design some characters/monsters for it. Here's one that I have dubbed Pinkeye.I'm not sure if this alone would count for the Surreal category, but I'm tossing it in there anyway. For reasons, read the above description.
And yes, I have learned how to make a transparent background on my own.
Now to learn how to do so in a neater manner.Pinkeye © ~StitchedUpZombie and ~beza I suppose, since the purpose of this thing's creation was his idea in the first place.

Very interesting creature design you have here! I agree in that it is surreal, as you wouldn't expect an eye on something to open up and eat you (it looks like a mouth?).
I like the colors, as they give off this sort of sickly feeling, like a monster from a game should if it's intended to be scary or unsettling. I've never played Yume Nikki, so I can't say much for the amount of inspiration, but I do enjoy the design you've got in the works. I would suggest maybe some more definition or devotion to a purpose (Is it supposed to be scary? Deceptively cute?) in its design, as at the moment it seems to be riding the fence on several different types of enemies you'd normally find in an RPG.
That isn't entirely bad in this stage, as it leaves a lot of room for development and expansion to be a finalized creature for this project. I'd very much suggest collaborating more on this, as you seem to know where you're going with it. Good luck on the game, you two!

I kind of like "deceptively cute", to be honest. The main things I was going for were "unusual" and "weird" - whether or not it's scary as is can be decided by the audience.
Maybe I was subconsciously going for "creepy cute"? I tend to combine things most people find attractive with things mostly considered repulsive. All I know is that my brother wanted "weird", "dreamlike", "surreal", etc., and my brain shat this out.

Considering that Yume Nikki has some shout outs to Earthbound in it, I think it was inspired somewhat by it.
I'm just taking TVtropes' word for it though. I've never played Earthbound, though I do know a few things about it.
