I can understand why. In all his pics for FMH, he's had yellow eyes due to not becoming an alpha until much later in the story.
Maybe Jean could say that line when Peter finally lets her on patrols with them. Then Harley or one of the other wolves says "How long have you been waiting to say that one?".
