(Thomas) Growth Scene: Strength
Thomas had tossed and turned all through his first night in the foghouse. He tried to do as his pet always told him- “look on the bright side” was the expression she’d used- and appreciate the good points of the situation.
The barn was spacious, cozy, and he only had to share it with a single dwarf nurse Fumi. It was also quiet, clean, and away from the noises he was used to in the city… all things he’d been hoping for in a new dwelling. However he just couldn’t stop missing his beloved pet.

So, when he’d finally fallen asleep, it was near dawn, and out of sheer exhaustion. That rest was short lived however, when tiny paws were soon shaking him awake. He groaned and lifted his head to see his barn-mate, Rainy, staring at him with wide teary eyes.

“Wha…?” He winced, unnerved by the look she was making.

“I-I-I can’t f-find ‘em…!” Rainy’s reply was punctuated with a squeak of despair. “They n-never go away like this! What if- what if—!”

“All right, all right!” Thomas replied, standing and stretching. He had no idea what she was on about, but he had to do something. He hated seeing others cry.

Rainy raced out the door toward the main house, and flew through the cat flap on the side door.

Unable to follow through such a tiny entrance, Thomas stopped at the door and noticed a pink piece of paper taped on its surface. He adjusted his spectacles over his tired eyes.

Thomas,

We’ve gone to town early today to run errands.

Rainy isn’t used to being alone, please don’t let her destroy the house looking for us.

Thank you, dear.

Mrs. Hoggins

Thomas sighed at the sound of something shattering behind the door. A second later, Rainy flew out from the flap and collided with him.

“You hafta help me look!” She cried. “Last time Ma didn’t come back!! And-and-and they dug a hole—!”

“Hey hey, it’s all right. Look.” He pointed a claw at the note. “It says they went on errands.”

Rainy only sniffed and stared at him with those wide, sad eyes.

“…They ah… They’ll be back later. Promise.” He said. “Everything is fine, let’s go back to sleep? Yeah?”

She perked up a little at the word ‘promise’. “Oh… okay then… more sleep, I guess.”
