Prelude
Long ago during the simpler times, on a web forum now lost to the the ages, an experiment was conducted. It was a collaborative sprite comic shared among many of the forum's users, in which everyone built armies of sprites and fought against eachother in a grand pixelated war. It was chaotic, full of easy pop-culture references and some of the earliest recorded memes, and featured sprites from any game we could rip from (though it was mostly Metal Slug and Sonic sprites in the beginning)

This experiment was called the Sprite Wars, and from the chaos of the early comic came the collaborative, plot-driven comic we know today:

But I always wondered if it was possible to repeat the experiment, especially in a new place with new people. Deviantart presents a unique opportunity to give this concept another try, as its one of the few places out there to cater to a rather diverse crowd of spriters. Furthermore, there is a much larger variety of sprites that have been ripped over the years and made publicly available through sites such as the Spriters Resource. This alone should give anyone the chance to take part, even if they're relatively new to spriting. Considering all these factors, I think of it as a wasted opportunity to not give the comic another try.
