I remember playing Mech Commander... That was so much fun. Really wish they'd make an updated version of it (or just, you know, make it playable again).

Personally, i've never been a huge fan of the RTS type of gameplay in MechCommander, I much prefer turn-based strategy over real-time. So the upcoming Kickstarter by Harebrained Schemes (the guys behind Shadowrun Returns) of BATTLETECH, which according to them will be a turn-based tactics game with RPG elements, sounds like a dream come true for me.
That is, if the game actually gets the funding.
But i can see why people liked MechCommander. It was a well-made, fun game, but just not my cup of tea.

I liked the unique aspects of it - choosing and arming your mechs, pilots, weapons, managing your 'economy' and capturing enemy wrecks... That the pilots all had unique names, voices and avatars was pretty cool too. I also liked that you could get totally slaughtered if you carried out an assault one way but win convincingly if you found the right approach. A lot of strategy games don't have this tactical depth imo.
I like turn based strategy games as well (Fantasy General being one of my favourites), it's not really a choice between the one or the other for me. That project does seem interesting!
