In the month before Rainbow and Derpy got together, Rainbow started avoiding Derpy, almost constantly. She was having a hard time handling her feelings, and when Derpy finally was able to track down her upset floof horse all of Rainbow's feelings just kind of exploded outwards under the grey pegasus's worried questioning and prodding. Rainbow ended up getting all tearful and shaky, and all her feathers fluffed out tremendously and she confessed her feelings right there on the spot. The usually brash little pegasus then completely broke down and Derpy (who had no idea that RD was interested in mares at all in the first place, much less her) spent the rest of the night hugging and comforting her blue friend. Derpy, who had developed her own better controlled crush on Rainbow, gave the smaller pegasus a smooch during this and told her her feelings as well. This was met by a very red rainbow dash and floof, and marked the beginning of their relationship
