Description Click "Download" for full view!

Incase you can't tell what each view is (but I'm pretty sure you can), here they are:

From right to left,
Top row: Anklet, belt, markings back, markings front, markings left, markings left-back
Middle row: Markings right, markings right-back, cloak lining, cloak top, hair tie, crown
Bottom row: Headdress forehead piece, cloak back, full Midna front, full Midna left, full Midna right, and the glow marks (which are supposed to be teal, but aren't for some reason; I found that in the texture file things for the model)

I finally found a use for Blender! It's been collecting dust for a while, but now I can use it to make references! Yay!

I might make more of these, including Zelda, Imp Midna, Link, and Zant. So, expect me to spam your inboxes sometime soon!

I didn't get a reference of the face because for whatever reason Midna's eyes don't have the irises, and it looks freaky O_O

There are two other good reference pack things on dA with non-freaky eyes, but I'm not going to link to them out of fear of them getting mad at me for not asking . . . and I don't feel like asking right now, since I don't know how long it will be before they reply.

I hope you find this useful for your fanart and/or cosplays!

Happy drawing/sewing!

~Stormuna

You're allowed to use this reference without my permission. However, do NOT claim it as your own.

I did not make the Midna model or the Midna character in any way, shape, or form. All model and character rights go to Nintendo. I only made the reference image.

The other reference you mentioned seems to have had the download taken down, but this is exactly what I needed, thank you very much! I hope you don't mind still getting comments on something so old.

omigawd.. Where was this two months before you posted it? ;3;
I started my Midna cosplay the October before you posted this. This would have been soooooo incredibly helpful if I had searched for reference images again after I started. XDD

Your cosplay actually looks really accurate for not having a reference O.O Except you may want to paint yourself pale blue the next time you wear it :3 I'm hoping to use the PAX method when I wear my Midna - you can read more about it here if you'd like to:
[link] I just think it would complete the look :3

haha Thank you kindly~!

I had a couple reference pictures, but the problem with her being on the screen for less than two minutes makes accuracy difficult. Every other cosplay I tried to work off of looked good, but not enough like the few screenshots I could find.
My main reference was another 3D model like yours, but it didn't have enough shots of different angles, nor did it show close-up details of things such as the haircuff or anklets, body markings, etc.
I'm a bit of a perfectionist, so I wanted everything to look as close to the actual character model as possible.

I looked into PAX a couple years ago when I first started my cosplay. We couldn't get any in time for the convention, so I didn't bother.
I was planning on doing it this year, but since I would be working two days after the convention I thought having bright red skin from all the scrubbing wouldn't look too good. haha
Instead, this year I used eyeshadow and powdered it onto my skin, though it ended up being a bit too dark, and the parts that faded away just made it look like I was badly bruised.

And, unfortunately, I decided to use a different wig this year. The one I used last year was merely a few pieces clipped onto the back of my head. I wanted to use a full wig, which was blonde because apparently no one in my city sells the right colour wig. So the blonde wig clashed horribly with my dark blue skin.
I'm aiming for a better wig and, hopefully, PAX or something just as good for next year.

You're very welcome!

I know what you mean! It's so hard! My mom actually made me a Midna costume for Halloween when I was in sixth grade, and it was well made, but not accurate at all. We only had the game to look off of, and I got screenshots from videos on YouTube (and YouTube killed the quality, naturally).
And I think I know what reference you're talking about. I'm using that in conjunction with my reference.

I think it would actually be better to mix your own PAX, because then you could get the color you wanted.
That must have taken a lot of eyeshadow O.O I remember for the Halloween costume, my mom put eyeshadow mixed with sparkly powder on my face . . . it did NOT look good XD Not to mention that Midna doesn't literally sparkle. And I wore a pink leotard that was sprayed orange . . . O.O My mom made some odd decisions XD And for me personally, I'm also entering the swimsuit competition as Midna this year as well as the normal competition at Nebraskon, so I need full-body makeup. But if it weren't for the swimsuit, I would be just fine with coloring only the parts that are showing.

I actually got my wig from Ebay (for Christmas from my boyfriend XD) in a pumpkin orange/copper color. You should search on Ebay for a pumpkin orange wig. Either that or copper is fine too. You could also dye the wig and spend less money :3 It's just easier to get the right wig color though XD And then, since it was too wavy for my tastes, I straightened it with hot water.

I'm actually almost done with my cosplay. I just need to paint the cloak and skirt and sew the sleeves on the leotard and glue on the EL wire, plus giving the wig bangs and cutting it a little shorter. And then I need to modify a pair of tights (for the black leg) and I'm done!

Yea, the review I found on it gave all the instructions, saying to mix the clear/white PAX with simple acrylic paint.
The eyeshadow I got covered quite a bit without using too much, so I used maybe half a little container. Still didn't work anywhere near as well as PAX would.
XDD Yea, the eyeshadow had a bit of a sheen to it, too. :'P

I literally only just got a credit card today, so looking online hadn't been an option before. I'll definitely have to look around online to try and find a decent wig. The only ones I could find in my city were crappy Halloween wigs that looked far from natural.

What material did you use for the cloak? It looks so smooth. haha

Stormuna In reply to omnomphenomenonArt [2012-06-01 04:22:47 +0000 UTC]

I know that I plan to test out mixing the paint before I do the actual PAX. That way I know ratios and such.
Huh. Maybe it was just widely dispersed.
Avoid sparkle for Midna XD

Oh XD I don't even have a job. So I obviously don't have a credit card. And if you'd like me to show you the wig I got, I'd be happy to :3

I used satin :3 It's a higher-quality satin, and not the costumey stuff.

I'm going to have to look into finding Pros-Aide, hopefully it's sold in my city. If not I might have to go so far as to order it online. :'T
haha No, it was blended in fine, just that the skirt kept hitting my leg when I walked rubbed some of it off.. XDD

Yea, I didn't have a job at the time, either. I only had a hundred or two dollars, and my aunt who helped me make the costume pitched in a bit too.
I'd love to see it! Where did you get it and how much was it?

ooh How easy will that be to paint on? I could see it bunching up with each paint stroke..
The fabric I used was a bit thicker, but still has quite a bit of bend to it.Even with that I had to hold it down to keep the brush from dragging it. :I

Here's a link to where you can get it online: [link]

I might be getting a job soon. We'll see how things go XD I'm saving up for contacts.
I got it from Ebay. [link] I know you can't see an image right there, but if you scroll down, you'll see pictures of it. And you can always straighten it if you'd like. That's what I did.

I'm actually going to make stencils and spray all the designs on ^_^ I was originally planning to draw on all the designs by hand with chalk and paint over them, but when I went to do it, it proved to be too difficult. Plus, with a stencil, you can make the design symmetrical for sure. I plan to pin the cloak and skirt down on whatever they will lay on when painting so that they lay flat. And I plan to do it outdoors as well.

aa Thank you! Have you tried it yet? What is your opinion on it?
I know that she suggested to not wear it over night, but if I'm to paint my body I don't want to take it off and do it again the next day. I'll probably just put an old sheet on the bed or something.

Good luck! I wanna get coloured contacts for the cosplay, but I would need perscription.. haha I don't want to wear my glasses again next year, it just looked odd.. XDD

That looks great! Is it a good quality wig, or is it blah? I'm not sure if I'd want to straighten it, I like the slight wave it has. c':

That's what I did, chalk and paint. Stenciling sounds a lot better, especially to have it mirrored.
Oh, what I suggest doing is don't sew the bottom of the cloak or the bottom of the skirt. Leave them open so you can insert cardboard or something between the layers of fabric. The paint tends to soak through, and that would be bad especially on the cloak where you see the inside.

Unfortunately, no My mom still needs to order it XD And I'm only wearing the costume on Saturday at Nebraskon. Friday I'm Tira and Sunday I'm World is Mine Miku.

I'm actually getting pretty close to the amount I need for the exam. And I have a friend who has bad eyesight and has to wear glasses, but she doesn't wear them at cons XD I'm lucky to have good vision.

I personally like it. I wouldn't suggest putting it into a ponytail or anything, but well, Midna's hairstyle is very simple XD And I think Midna's hair is more on the straight side . . . you could always get two wigs if you'd like XD Straighten one and keep the other wavy.

When my mom did it, I don't think she did that, and it worked just fine. Plus I already sewed up the bottom XD Or should I say serged? This is my first serger cosplay XD But I guess I could resew it. I just don't want to. And the skirt isn't lined, so I don't need to do anything on that.

heh Midna is my only cosplay. I wish I had the drive (and motivation) to make more.

So lucky.. I hate how bad my eyes are. D':
I can't go without glasses, 'cause if I strayed from my boyfriend or our friend while at the con I wouldn't be able to find them. DX

Oh? Why not put it in a ponytail?

aa Okay. That was one thing I was majorly worried about was the paint seeping through.. haha

Stormuna In reply to omnomphenomenonArt [2012-06-09 03:51:11 +0000 UTC]

Hmm. Well, maybe if you do more costumes, you'll gain the motivation! Part of my motivation comes from past experiences when working on cosplays XD Such as my first Tira . . . Tira was the first costume that I made myself (and even so I still had some help from my mom), and I kept putting a lot of it off until suddenly, it was the week of Nebraskon! I made the same mistake with Juri, except I managed to finish the whole thing the night before the con. Thankfully I don't have much left to do on Midna XD Or the new Tira. Just the detail work on Midna and some decorations on Tira, reforming the hat, and the ringblade.

Hmm. Then wear them, and then when someone asks for a picture, take them off! Maybe you could sew a pocket into one of the sleeves to put your glasses in?

Well, I think you'd need to get extensions for that, and I don't know if there are matching extensions out there. But Midna doesn't even have a ponytail, so it doesn't matter.

I don't think spray paint would seep through anyway. It spreads out more evenly I would think and you need less of it. I think. I don't know.

Where it is located in the cloak itself and oooh thank you and they are bright teal almost neon

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Stormuna In reply to Featherlos [2012-02-04 18:17:50 +0000 UTC]

The cloak lining is located on the inside of the cloak.
And just remember that they are teal, not green. Although, they would appear green in the Twilight Realm. I'm only referring to the light world.

Im currently doing a midna costume i was wondering the cloak lining , which locations is it in ? o.o and the design in the last one in the right , is for the skirt ? thing ? o.o

Stormuna In reply to Featherlos [2012-02-04 04:24:57 +0000 UTC]

Are you talking about the locations on the reference, or on the cloak itself? And the last designs are for the sleeves (left) and thigh (right). They glow in the game. They're actually teal, but I know next to nothing about actual 3D modeling, so I don't know how to fix that.
