Description
There was no greater fan of RPGs than Ted. He'd played D&D since he was old enough to roll a d20, and had thousands of hours of playtime on PC fantasy games to his name. In that time, Ted invested heavily in his characters. His Barbarian tank had lived several lifetimes of adventure, his wizard was basically a grey bearded sociopath and his bard was - shall we say - amusingly promiscuous. His favourite character of all was Wren Boxwood, a half elven ranger turned barmaid, who worked at the Three Dragons tavern by day and laid down covering fire for dungeon parties by long, terrifying night. Wren was pretty badass and, though she had the high charisma to avoid almost all fighting, when she let go the results were... entertaining.
Over time, the more Ted played this character, the more he was surprised to identify with her. Initially playing a female character had been a laugh, but the more time he spent as Wren, the more real she became and the more Ted craved the tavern life.
For a game so full of magic, Ted shouldn't have been surprised that some of it was real and had the power to answer his wildest dreams. Now he didn't need his imagination and a Dungeon Master's plotting to be Wren, he lived her life each day. She was a real hit with all the clientele at the Three Dragons - in fact, you could say she was a critical hit. The nights were occasionally scary, but nothing an experienced ranger like Wren couldn't sneak, snipe or seduce her way past.
