Athelwin sighed deeply as another batch of his herbal tincture failed to turn that deep shade of magenta he'd first seen two full days ago. No matter how hard he tried, he could neither replicate the mixture that had woven such huge changes upon him, nor could he formulate an antidote.
Things were getting desperate. He hadn't eaten since yesterday, and he'd run out of ale. His hair constantly fell across his eyes and his new... assets made his back hurt.
Even worse, Master Cadmon would return from York tomorrow, he'd want to know where his apprentice had gone, and why the apothecary shop hadn't been open since Wednesday. Worst of all, he might even accuse the strange young woman he would find there of witchcraft. No, Athelwin would have to keep on mixing, and hoping to goodness he could stumble on the right ingredients once again.
