Description
Obviously, this is for the fashion themes 'Layered' (I am trying to do them all in order). I wasn't really sure what should be classified as layered and what shouldn't (google images was no help at ALL!!With that in mind I originally planned to do something a little more casual, using jeans, a couple of layers of skirt, a nice blouse and a leather jacket combo but seeing as I decided to use Koyuki for this one I figured, seeing as I already did something casual using her, I'd do something much more formal, and thus, with a wave of my magic tablet (my good it really is magic!) Koyuki has been decked out ready to hit a formal ball like Cinderella meeting her prince!
The outfit design originally came from a gown that I had shoved her in a while back (like 2007 I think)...and when I say outfit design, I really mean the top and the huge bow on her back, the rest has been totally revamped from the skirt to the beads to the gloves to pretty much the entirety of the design, including the colours...
Everything pretty much has been done using vectors (my poor computer) aside the night sky and so this has taken a ridiculous amount of time, I started before I even began thinking of designs for the previous fashion themes, so overall...this has taken about 2-3 weeks to complete from start to finish....surprisingly the easiest bit was the beads, but that's just because it was all copy and paste XDD but it was also the most annoying bit! (but also one of my favourite bits)
And yes...Koyuki did get hair extensions for her big night! *wonders who it is she's looking at...hehe*
AND! YES!! BACKGROUND!!! What do you guys think? I tried the whole balcony in a castle kind of background to suit the dress, and I thought it wasn't bad, but I might be wrong...?

hmm...part of learning how to do shadows for me was to do them without cell shading first....as in, just practice in basic colouring with soft cell just to get the hang out it (and not using the burn or dodge tools btw) Having a good lineart to practice with also helps a great deal, so I ended up creating piles of linearts and then because I got sick of my own linearts, I trolled around dA for decent ones...linearts really help because it gives you a nice guide to wear you are going....
with shadows...i think I first started practicing with just traditional art...well not really art...I just got a pen and applied pressure at the beginning and then reduced the pressure (which you can do with your tablet anyway) which gave me an idea of where shadows go....i.e...make it dark on one side and lighter on the others....but it's really hard to explain using words on the computer so I'd have to show you in person...but I'm a horrible teacher...
I think another thing that helped me is that I have a really strong desk lamp which gives very strong shadows...which meant anything which the light couldn't touch (like one side of the hand touches and the other is hidden) which acted as a really good guide...it's also why my shadows all tend to be on the same side every picture I do...
when you get into actual cell shading, as I said once before, vectors are the way to go....it's soo much easier, but takes a little longer and a lot more practice!
