Description
When I was younger, I had video cassettes of Pokemon episodes, and at the end of them all there were always anime trailers that would play at the end. One of them was for a film called The Dog of Flanders, which was based on a Japanese television series of the same name that ran from 1992 to 1993, and was adapted from an 1872 novel by Marie Louise de la RamΓ©e. The film follows a young artist, Nello, and his dog, Patrasche, and the tragedy that ensues on their lives. I knew next to nothing about the film other than what I had seen from the trailer for the majority of my childhood. It wasn't until early 2010 that I thought about the trailer and decided to look for the movie on the internet. Sure enough, I found the full movie online and decided to watch it alone. Before this film, I was a pretty cynical kid. I never took other people's feelings into consideration. While I could love the people I cared about, I didn't connect with people emotionally. By the time I had finished watching this film, I was hyperventilating from crying so much, and was so inspired by this movie that I vowed to become a better person. I don't know if this film was really about staying honest and good of heart, but that's what I got out of it back then and I look at this film as the film that changed my life. After 6-7 years, I have not seen this film in it's entirety because I've never had the emotional strength to rewatch it. This film carved out a chunk of my heart and then stitched it back into place. The reason why I decided to draw this now, though, is because I found that someone posted the ending of the film on Youtube, and I wondered if the film is still as emotionally devastating as I remembered it. Yes. Yes it is. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go crawl into bed and cry myself to sleep.

I WATCHED IT EARLIER WITH MY FRIEND AND...
I actually have watched it before!! In the past! It was just such a long time ago, that I didn't remember it, but as I watched I knew I remembered scenes from it (such as the windmill on fire, or him getting a canvas!)
So I was glad to watch it and remember it XD
It's so good, I really love it, it's a really cute and charming movie, and incredibly sad as well. To think that, if he had just stayed at that house, he would've gotten food, a place to stay, and a scholarship. It upsets me a lot that he didn't just wait but I mean, I understand that feeling going through it RN in my own life. You reach a point where nothing ever goes right and everything is so against you that...you just lose hope and don't see the point of waiting BC like, what's gonna change anytime soon???? (That's how I feel in my life, anyways, and this film captures that feeling really well and also motivates me a bit to //keep waiting//).
IDK I just can't believe I didn't remember it!! But then again it was long ago, SO!
It makes me wonder what other movies are out there that I saw as a kid but forgot about. >_>
