After my art trade with , I wanted to draw her Prism fused with my Howlite.

I was intrigued by the way PRISMkidd comes up with fusions for her gemsona, so I did a lot of thinking and research for this one as well. I looked into what howlites are made of, and found that it's a calcium borosilicate hydroxide, or as I like to call it, Borosilicate Calcite. The "hydroxide" is just because it's typically found in evaporite deposits, similar to halite/salt.

So with that, I started looking into calcite crystals and their colors, and what do ya know it comes in every color of the rainbow. Now there is such a gem as rainbow calcite, but the colors in it are just different values of one or two colors, and not really a "rainbow". I'm taking artistic liberties by instead incorporating all the colors from stand-alone calcites into this fusion.

And yeah, that's the story of how I designed and settled on our fusion, Rainbow Calcite. It was cool to research and fun to draw, if not a bit tricky coloring.

i also have this idea that when they fuse, prism gets stronger, but howlite gets weaker, because calcite is less hard than howlite but is more hard than the glass that makes up prisms.
