Another Disney-based pic from my recent pick-ups, it's time for another underrated Disney female. And yes, I have to admit that among the Experimental Age films, "Treasure Planet" is probably one of the most underrated due to it's own infamy, basically being the "Black Cauldron" of it's era in being extremely ambitious and better than many give credit, but being so expensive to make and in a volatile set of circumstances that it basically bombed upon release leading to major studio changes. And obviously when it comes to "Treasure Planet", one of the best things about this "Treasure Island" redo is it's take on Captain Smollett, making her the very masculine but feminine-appearing feline alien Amelia. Amelia is definitely a highlight of the film, basically taking no crap from anyone onboard her flagship RLS Legacy and with her own means of sternly guiding the ship to it's destination...sure there's what John Silver does when they get there that causes problems but that's for the plot. (and of course there is her feminine side that emerges mostly to allow for her romance with Dr. Doppler but that's something else altogether) I sort of feel ashamed with how much Disney tends to push their "princesses" since characters like Amelia get ignored or thrown away for having their own awesomeness despite being older and more mature, and I really wish we got more like her...that and she's even underrated as a Disney anthro female; do you realize how few art there is of her compared to Maid Marian or Judy Hopps? (but...that's the problems of being underrated I suppose)
