Okay before I begin,I want to thank ~Sarah-the-ninja-101 ,
For letting me fix up this base,
I also want her to know that I'm not just,
Attacking her and this is not just geared towards her,
A lot of people do this I just found this base,
Easy to work with.
Pixel art is srs biznez just like CG's just like flash movies,
I'm sick of us being looked at like fucking,
Second class citizens on DeviantART,
It's true there have been some strides in the,
Right direction lately but by the public,
A lot of people look down on us because:
1) They think we are a bunch of tracers,
2) A lot of bases and dolls I've seen lately look like,
The person took five minutes to complete it.
If you're going to trace a base first off,
I hope you've got permission from the OG artist,
Or you're gonna be in a world of hurt when you're caught,
(Is speaking from experience)
Second off spend some quality time with the piece,
Why are you in such a hurry to post?
Wouldn't you rather post a decent base/doll,
Rather than look like a complete noob?
Finally there is a difference between a,
BASE and a COLOURING BOOK,
Bases are usually COMPLETELY NUDE,
Meaning there shouldn't be a bunch of shit,
Covering up the actual anatomic structure.
If you want to add in optional hair,
Or an accessory or two go for it,
But when your base is fully clothed,
With hair, accessories, a house, a car, the fucking moon,
Then it's not a base anymore,
It has now entered the DOLL category.
I'm getting sick of kids who think they're cool,
By tracing a pretty anime girl in a frilly dress,
Okay, whatever go do that on your own time,
But don't post it and think you're legit,
Because guess what you aren't.
I've been pixeling for three years,
So I know what I'm talking about,
It's a HUGE slap in the face,
To not just the pixel community,
But to me personally,
You can't believe how much I hurt for new comers,
WHO DON'T KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN,
A BASE AND A DOLL AND ART THEFT.
I'm not saying there's a right and wrong way,
To go about pixel art,
I'm just saying there is a right and wrong category,
For your piece of "ahhhhht",
You're basically putting yourself in the same group,
As the sonic recolourers and art thieves,
And believe me those aren't groups,
You want to be associate with.

Save your bases and dolls as either,
.Png, .Gif, or .Tiff files,
Because OBV .Jpg or .Jpeg pixel piece,

Only clothed base I accept is one of those "make your own sailor" bases, and either way, just because most Sol Senshi have similar uniforms, with some different details. And even then, they MUST be bald, at least.
But every other base with clothes? No, just no. If you want to offer a lineart for a stupidly difficult dress skirt, okay, but do that away from the base, just in the side (as many kisekae artists leave their clothes aside some bases), as I'd probably like to make something simple with that.

Ok. Im not a Pixel Artist, or atleast I havent been in a Long ass time. BUT I understand what you mean. Thats why when I search for bases (I use them to study the poses really), I skip the clothed ones, or Look for where they got the base from (Because I usually think Anything with clothes on isnt a base...)
Now when I did do Some pixel art... Spriting really, I did have that Sonic recolor. But I got better over time and started Making custom ones and editing Megaman sprites...
Well. I cant really Chose sides for this since I dont do any of this Doll/base... Stuff.

Yeah, I became more aware of my name, when I started seeing people like, Pocky Pixels and blah blah pixels.
But I find anything made on a computer to be "Pixel" art, Hence part of the name Pixelated dreams...
But yeah, One of my Pet Peeves is seeing someone's Base being BUTCHERED when some one slops on a color and calls it clothes. Aaaaauugh. Add some STYLE people.

then i gave up for a few years, and my bf got me a tablet so i had been using that

I agree with EVERYTHING you said. It's a shame how far we've fallen. For so long we tried to be accepted as artists and not a bunch of lazy hacks...and now we're falling right back into that with all these horrible dolls and bases. I understand if some people are starting out, but if they've gone YEARS without improvement...

I think your correct when you say pixel art is jsut as credible as other art. A lot of people treat it like its something that's easy, just because your working off of something and might not have picked up a pencil and drawn it yourself. I've tried doing base work before. Its hard. I still haven't finished because I find it so challenging. And I know EXACTLY what you're talking about with the "colouring book" things. I see people do that CONSTANTLY. And not even bother to ALTER the image at all. I mean, at least do some major altering to make it LOOK original, right? I say brav-o to your rant. People need to be educated that dolling is a legitimate art form, and should be given as much care as drawing, painting, sculpting or any other art form.

That's just how I see it,
A lot of people think it's easy,
Because MSPaint and GIMP are simple programs,
My art teacher once told me,
"If you can make a masterpiece,
In a shitty program,
Imagine what you can accomplish,
In a program worth 1,000$!"
It takes me about,
4 Hours to make a base,
That's not including if I,
Shade, add hair, and other options.
Yeah exactly!
They sometime cut out the hair,
Like that makes some huge difference?
It's like "Hello America,
This is so-and-so from generic anime,
But you don't know that,
Because she doesn't have hair anymore."
