Description
Spring is coming to Meridiani Planum on Mars, heralding the end of permafrost for the Red Planet's all too short summer months. With average temperatures rising over the decades, a large impact crater has begun to turn into a natural lake, fed from the nearby plains and from natural precipitations. Moss and ferns have started to grow close to where there is water. In a few weeks, the ice will have melted, and flowers will blossom around the lake shore until the frost returns. In a few hundred years, humans will be able to bathe in it and breathe the atmosphere unaided.* * *
