Where are the Stormlands? House Baratheon doesn't have a planet or anywhere to call home.

Yes, it's on Reach. It's still the capital, and still a coastal city.

DORNE is an arid M-class planet, it's surface carved by deep canyons. For its size it's comparably thinly populated, with most settlements and agricultural activity located inside the canyons and along the canyon walls, with greenhouses and irrigation in terraces clinging to cliffs like futuristic pueblos. Hard to reach due to their location, the planet's haywire weather patterns and the natural barrier of the Mountains of Dorne, the star system's inner asteroid belt, the Dornish harbor a strong sense of independence from the Iron Throne. Down there, sheltered from the planet's massive sand storms and the proximity of the sun, the Dornish have dwelt for centuries, ruled by House Martell. Not even the Targaryens were able to take Dorne by force - and they had Dragons!
REACH is the central planet of the Westerosi star system. A green world full of light forests, rolling hills and fertile land Reach is the most densely populated of the Westerosi realms, with the equatorial metropolis of Kings' Landing the seat of the monarchy. A center of commerce, industry and agriculture, Reach is the jewel of the star system and its control paramount to all who claim to reign over the 7 Kingdoms.
THE VALE is a storm-racked moon dominated by steep mountain ranges and deep blue seas. It's ancient defence grid and ground-to-space defenses make it nigh impenetrable to the outside invader. Ironically, House Arryn and its bannermen have to deal with a perpetual insurgency from the fringes of the fertile valleys as changing alliances of dispossessed, rebels and bandit clans contest their authority.
WESTRON is the home of House Lannister. Lords paramount over the red moon with its nitrogen-methane atmopshere, the Lannisters rule from their fortress on the slopes of Casterly Rock, overlooking the large space port and city of Lannisport on the "shore" of the moon's largest methane sea. Industrial and characterized by mining operations, WESTRON is barren but rich.
DRAGONSTONE is a small, barren rock. Essentially, it's the original Dragonstone minus an atmosphere: a fortress, not a palace, with little of value to make a stay worthwhile.

I suppose this here adds at least some bits for the space beyond the Wall.
A Song of Ice and Suns - PROLOGUEPROLOGUE
βWe should start back,β Gared urged as a rock the size of a country manor drew past their fragile craft, the far too distant pale sunlight turning the slowly rotating pock-marked boulder into a spectacle of light and shadow. βThe Wildlings are gone. Or dead. Either way suits me.β
βDo the dead frighten you?β Ser Waymar Royce asked with just the hint of a smile.
Gared did not rise to the bait. He was an old man, close to a hundred now, and he had seen the lordlings come and go. He wrinkled his nose at the smell inside the small ship. An old courier, nimble and with good endurance, and easy to maintain. Still, three grown men sharing a room no larger than a sleeping cell back at Castle Black for more than four weeks now was something the vessel's builders had never intended for. Gared thought he had gotten used to the rank and somewhat putrid stink of old sweat, other body odors and stale air. But right now he felt it bearing down on him like s

Battle stations, mine fields, sensor grid - all pretty much in a state of disrepair/decay.

And the Night's Watch, like in any other canon, is dwindling, undermanned, under-equipped, and routinely ignored about their warnings of a hostile alien race bent on mankind's total annihilation.

Well, everyone has his own headcanon now, so in some sense it does make sense.
But in a much truer sense it's just an aligned starsystem with names borrowed from a bestselling book that was made into a TV series. I mean, the spirit of the books is among other things embodied in this fantastic but cruel fantasy world with quasi-medieval and somewhat mystical rules, and the lives of men and women living their lives in (or against) that world. When the world is such a crucial component of what makes something great, it doesn't really make a lot of sense to replace that world with a sci-fi setting.

also, I've always said that once the producers of GoT are done with the series they need to tackle "DUNE" !
