QDJB was originally created for a mary sue contest. That's why her colors are so loud. The red is just the color I decided to make her eyes when I designed her since she was intended to be a mary sue. She's a serious character now though.

I know and I don't expect people to draw them. They're supposed to be complicated since they were former jokes. Believe it or not though, QMA has gotten a few pieces of fan art. Some people like the challenges drawing these girls present.

It's a shame that groups such as Terrible Ponies exist.Β  Whether drawings like these are jokes or serious, they are products of imagination and don't deserve mindless bashing by no-life losers that need to participate in sadistic, vulture-like activity to take their minds off of their own miserable existence.

StrawberryAurora In reply to MisterJones4899 [2014-12-29 16:09:11 +0000 UTC]

I know what you mean. They don't think about the fact that if the person that created them didn't like them, then they wouldn't have created them in the first place. TP is a a place for immature people to whine about the fact that they weren't the first one to think of a unique pony like the ones often featured on the site. Thanks for the support.

SolumSeronix In reply to StrawberryAurora [2015-01-01 13:03:26 +0000 UTC]

Actually, I must disagree with you. I suppose that's how people see TP, but generally people are trying to help those less experienced out. Because, and allow me to be honest here, there are some honest-to-goodness bad ocs out there. I get the whole "yeah, I just kinda made them 'cause I like them," but people treat them as their main oc, would-put-in-canon character. It's not about hate, it's about honest criticism, and their are multiple people who have actually posted to TP to thank them for the critiques, as it helped them grow as artists and writers.

The majority, if not all, of the haters and bashers aren't actually involved in TB. Personally, I rather like them, and in fact it often is a way for artists to get exposure. You know, what doesn't kill you and all that.

I guess it's cause they aren't exactly the "gold star for effort" kind of folks most people want, but that's another topic entirely. Mostly, I'm just trying to tell it like I see it with TP because hey, guess what? They've got legions of haters, too.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

StrawberryAurora In reply to SolumSeronix [2015-01-01 16:47:06 +0000 UTC]

I didn't say everyone was bad, but a majority of them are bashers. I did get some good comments on this because of them which I am grateful for. It is a good way to get noticed, but I can't stand people that come from there and give worthless comments like "Oww my eyes!".

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SolumSeronix In reply to StrawberryAurora [2015-01-01 21:42:13 +0000 UTC]

I get that. Nobody likes a troll. But TP as a group is not a bad thing, and everyone treats them like the plague.

Yes, people are jerks. Yes, some of those jerks hang about TP. But I personally can't stand when people stereotype or make broad generalizations, like "Ohh, yeah, TP? They're all just worthless haters without lives." It just gets to me. So saying "the majority of them are bashers" and all the comments about what a load of asshats they are? I absolutely hate it.Β

It's nice to be nice, but it's important to be honest. A lot of people simply can't handle criticism. I personally have a strong dislike for the whole concept of "Hey, you tried, here's a trophy for effort," and "Now, now, be careful not to hurt someones feelings." It isn't realistic, and doesn't help people to grow and learn in my opinion.

People who hate just to hate are awful, and lots of those people were. But some of those comments about rainbows in the eyes? They're just being terribly, brutally honest. As I said, people shouldn't need to sugarcoat their opinions, whatever they may be. Even if they aren't nice or differ from someone else's. That's what freedom of speech is. Gotta take the good with the bad, that's life.

I suppose, like in most matters in life, it's all opinion. I just don't want anyone going around telling people they can't share an honest (mind you, actually honest and not just a load of hateful horse crap) opinion, or worse yet, that it's is somehow wrong just because it isn't nice or doesn't align with their own.Β

Such a long post, and I'm still not sure of how well I got my point across. Ah well, I hope you can get the idea. Again, thanks for hearing me out and remaining so polite.

MisterJones4899 In reply to SolumSeronix [2015-01-05 03:45:01 +0000 UTC]

There seem to be primarily two kinds of ponies featured on TP these days; joke OC's made for the purpose of getting onto TP, and OC's made by children whose colors and styles appeal to the artist and fit into their fanon universe.Β  The second group is the one I'd like to discuss.

Children are not known for having thick skins.Β  Evidence of this would be the disabled comments, removed deviations, and in rare instances, account termination after being featured on the Tumblr.Β  The Nietzsche quote,Β  "That which does not destroy me can only make me stronger" shouldn't apply to a child's art account.

No-one has to leave a comment such as "Gold Star for effort", but why write a critique when critique is not asked for?Β  How about not leaving a comment at all?

Due to the name of the blog, the oft read phrase "Terrible Ponies sent me here" is an insult right out of the gate.Β  And getting flooded with criticisms, even if they are polite and constructive, can be overwhelming for new artists.

Admittedly, their have been a few people who have thanked TP for critiques, but when compared to the scores of people who have been damaged by TP, the damage outweighs the benefits easily by an order of magnitude, if not two.Β  There simply HAVE to be better ways to help an artist grow than this.

A group is not known by it's stated goals, but what it actually has done.Β  Overall, what has this group done?
If CitrusSqueeze could not forsee that a bunch of sadistic cowards would follow her blog (in addition to the kind, thoughtful critics, like yourself) and leave disgusting comments on children's art accounts, then she has a huge mental deficit.

What did she name that blog again?Β  And what is it's header image?

If she did forsee it, and purposefully named the blog to attract such individuals, what would that make her?
Β
------------------------
It's nice to be nice, but it's important to be honest..

"Honest to a fault" pops into mind.

------------------------
I just don't want anyone going around telling people they can't share an honest (mind you, actually honest and not just a load of hateful horse crap) opinion.

Absolutely.Β  They have a right to post that.Β  They also have a right to post nothing.Β  Where TP is concerned, posting seems to be some kind of obligation, and most posters don't seem to care whether their comments will help or harm an artist.

I can't say I'm surprised. I don't really care what the bashers say though. If I like them that is what is important to me. They were originally joke OCs, but since many of their babies were adopted as serious OCs they were changed to serious OCs as well.

On Right, you could quite possibly make the bright yellow, cream [of her mane], brown and white go together quite nicely. Β There's too much going on with left to pick out a color palette at this point.

PaperAnomaly [2014-10-20 07:27:17 +0000 UTC]

Okay... Wow.. lots of advice ahead...

The thing about wild animals (yes, horses are wild animals) is, no matter what color they may have, It's all in organic patterns, like splotches and spots and things like that, and also a color palette consisting of (regularly) no more than 3-4 colors, unless you're talking about reptiles or cephalopods. Β With the exception of Rainbowdash and Scootaloo, most ponies will have complimentary color schemes that are evenly distributed and flow smoothly into and out of one another; think of bay and pinto colored horses. Β Your color schemes are aaaaall over the place, and it's unpleasing to the eye. Β The genes of an animal in general will be even throughout a body part, so unless she died her hair that color, and the letters in her tail are naturally occuring (which they aren't) I would suggest to remove them, not to mention the odd purple-white-brown combo on Right's tail. Β The leopard print on Left's flank will generally only be used on predatory animals such as wild canines, wild felines, sharks, etc. Β And since horses are not predatory, i'd suggest removing that as well. Β Again, good character design is based on consistency.

Generally you'll never see a perfectly straight line on an animal unless it's like... I don't know, a Butterfly or another insect of some kind. Β The computer generated spots on Left's front leg will never naturally occur in nature, as will the peacock feather design. Β Peacocks have those feathers to attract mates and ward off predators, because it's in a highly noticeable, useful place.

I'm also not sure what the peglegs are about either, but it seems a bit irregular that she would have peglegs on both her hind legs. Β Β

There's also not much sense in a horse/pony having 4 horns, no animal on the planet has 4 horns unless it's a horned lizard or a pangolin. Β There are pronged antlers, i.e. deer and carribou, but that's about it. Β Also, your light sources seem to be a bit off. Β The white shines on the eyes aren't part of the animal's anatomy itself, just an effect of its surroundings, so the light source will either be white and effect everyone in the picture, or be purple and effect everyone in the picture. Β Also the whites of her eyes should stay white, that unhealthy red and grey color would signify her being under the effects of a serious disease or influence of parasites.

Overall I would suggest just taking 3 of your favorite colors (COLORS, not patterns) from each pony, and turn it into a nice organized, organic, believable creature. Β I get you want to keep your characters the same, but it will be a load off your drawing hand and their reputation as well. Β

I hope this helped.
