Description Its easy to get me distracted - sometimes its just a single line. Like it was with a fan-article about the Merkava BT tank.
So I started to "loresize" the MWO ShadowHawk model - somewhere i had the idea the Mech is 9.5m tall.

The cramped cockpit  would not allow a second guy to ride shotgun (as we know it from novels) - I remembered the "size" comp from the TRO3039....
Well I think the lore has an issue there. The guy in the lower right is with 1.79cm (5'10'' ) not a very big one.
the MWO mechs are more compact compared to the TRO3039 comparisons so i dropped some height. However the sleak SHD still looks tiny compared to the Commando.... well really don't know if I should either enlarge the SHD or shrink the others.

As a comparison I added my version of Demolisher and Goblin. I did not use the exact lore models because lore tanks will not work (to small) - also that the volume give not a hint about the mass (the IFV Goblin need more room for infantry, the Demo as MechDestroyer doesn't need so much open space)

yeah always had issues with the described scale of mechs... regarding cockpits in the novels, it always seemed varied depending on the author. I remember in the book Far Country the pilot of the Phoenix Hawk LAM storing gold he had looted in the locker of his mechs cockpit. During aerial maneuvers he was pelted with gold tumbling from the locker behind him, causing him to crash. Always wondered how big the locker was...

Thanks for the reply.
Yeah scaling of BT is usually wrong. Its a real downer in HBS BattleTech that those Mechs  are gigantic - even the feet of a 45t Mech is as large as a whole tank.

Its possible to have a locker in the cockpit, although only the "upper body of the pilot" can be placed in the (small ShadowHawk) there is still room for some lockers in the rear of his ejection seat. It might not be that easy to get there, but even in your car you can climb on the backseat without leaving the car.

hm, for the shadowhawk, it depends what you mean by riding shotgun (I'm not familiar with much Battletech material): if you mean "fit side by side", then probably not. If you simply mean "fit another person in there", then maybe. it depends how far back that crew compartment goes. You could probably do the "sit on lap" method, which I know some very irrisponsible people did in their cars. While driving. It might be roomy enough for that, depending on how far forward the seat is. Otherwise, there might be enough space behind the seat to squeeze someone in.

Also, hey from spacebattles.

In the novel - "Mercenary Star" Grayson was "standing" behind Lori and watching through the main-screen/window fighting DCMS forces. Later both are again in the cockpit of a Marauder.
In a different Novel there is an extra "seat" mentioned - a folding seat in the cockpit of a Hatchetman....well... when you compare the "art" of the TRO Hatchetman with the space consumed by a pilot this doesn't seem to make sense. At least the pilot is not using the cockpit window or/and the Mech is much bigger as the supposed ~10-12m in height.

but I will see if I can finish one or two generic BattleMech cockpits for further discussion.

Finally, someone who agonizes over the scale of Battletech vehicles as much as I do. Needless to say, I love your work.

I'd probably scale the Warhammer and Banshee down, the Commando and Shadow Hawk look to be at a plausible height (although the Commando should probably be thinned out a bit to fit it's described weight compaired to the Shadow Hawk).
