Featuring Squire Link:Summer, Year 2002 of the Dragon Era | The Onyx Shore - Auster Wood, Austerian Territory
Whether it was as a result of his clean-up effort of the Queen’s Landing shrine or the offering of a silver wolf coin to the shrine, somehow Link found himself the proud new owner of a wolf pup. Was the demi-goddess Vitae’a upset with him, or was she pleased? Link wasn’t sure. He wanted to think the latter but, if not well trained, wolves were dangerous.
The Woodland Wolves had proven that much already.
“Midna, come,” he commanded, urging the pup closer. The she-wolf, having been happily sniffing at some stick or another, popped her head up, her head tilting to the sip comically before she galloped clumsily toward him. The young stag chuckled, lowering his nose as she neared him so that she could accost his nose with a series of licks and friendly nibbles. She had large feet for her age, suggesting that - as was prone with her species - the direwolf would grow to be an impressive figure. Link frowned, somewhat. He needed to make sure that Midna knew the difference between friends and prey.
An easy enough task for an herbivore, right?
With a quick, tri-noted whistle - two lows following but a swooping hi note - he urged the excited pop to follow him as they continued down the shoreline.
Midna, a fountain of excitement, investigated everything that she could. Link kept her in his sights, although as he followed her down her zig-zag path along the beach he couldn’t help but check the horizon from time to time. The Onyx Shore was, in general, cooler than the rest of the Auster Wood but, with The Scarlet lurking across Anomalous, one could never be too careful.
But, for the most part - save for a few dastardly stones that tripped the grey-coated pup a time or two - their beachside stroll was, largely, unaccosted. Eventually, when the sun began to dip from its highest point in the sky toward its setting place, Link whistled for Midna to return to him. It was time to begin the journey home.
It took a time or two to get the direwolf’s attention away from a bundle of seaweed but, eventually, she heeded his call and trotted to his side. He praised Midna, reinforcing the show of good behavior, before angling them down the path that would lead them back to his uncle’s home.
They hadn’t gone more than a few steps, though, before Midna froze and, with surprising swiftness, turned on her paws.
“What is it, Midna?”
Link lowered his head, only to jerk it back as a growl gurgled up from the pup’s throat.
“Midna, no!” he chastised but, when the pup’s growls turned into a whine - eyes locked onto something behind him - the squire turned.
There, on the horizon, a mysterious fog; within it, a red ship, with tattered crimson sails...

In which Link works on taming his new direwolf pup, Midna, and Midna spots SOMETHING off in the distance. First traditional art piece in like... 5eva. BE NICE TO ME I HAVE A REAL ACTUAL BABY AT HOME, OKAY?
